This whole discussion has led me to look at Genesis 1, and ponder what is meant by the first day, the second day, etc.

Genesis 1 begins:

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. (Gen 1:1-4 NIV)

If it happened that God said, “Let there be light,” and separated the light from the darkness on the first day, wouldn’t it also happen that, after there was evening, and there was morning, the first day would have ended and the second day begun? And then wouldn’t God have created the vault on the second day, and after there was evening, and there was morning, the second day would have ended? And then wouldn’t God have said, “Let the land produce vegetation . . .” on the third day? Is there another way of counting the days that would make sense?

If this is the correct way to count the days in Genesis, then wouldn’t the way to count the days between Christ’s death and Resurrection be as follows:

Christ died on the cross and was laid in the tomb on the first day. And there was evening, and there was morning. The first day ended and the second day began. Christ remained in the tomb the second day. And there was evening, and there was morning. The second day ended and the third day began. At dawn of the third day, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb, and there was a violent earthquake for an angel of the Lord rolled back the stone and sat on it.

If not, what other way of counting days makes sense?

“Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.” Mark 15:25

Third ‘hour’ of day, or third ‘hour of the night..

Mark counted starting at sunrise... if started at sunset, savior died in the middle of the ‘night’ and no sun would have been needed to be blocked..

Then we see Mathew, Luke also rendered the ‘hours’ from sunrise..
Mark 15:33; Mathew 27:45; Luke 23:44

Then even had ‘now come’ in mark 15:42; mathew 27:57 after He died..

So the gospels description of His death starts the countng of ‘day’ at sunrise. The night was never referred with hours, but watches..

I don’t know if there was ever scriture where Messiah went into the temple at night, it was always ‘day.. but I am willing to look at one if folks can find it.

And Mark 1:32-35 gives us more confirmation of timing..
The Sabbath ended in the evening- and the people brought him the sick to be healed.
Verse 35 continues and says ‘ in the morning, a great while before day, He rose up..

From the rising of the sun to its going down Yah’s name is to be praised. Psalms 113:3 NKJV
The Mighty One, Elohiym, Yah, has spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, Elohiym will shine forth. Psalms 50:1-2 NKJV

For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; in every place incense shall be offered to My name, and a pure offering; for My name shall be great among the nations,” says Yah of hosts. Malachi 1:11 NKJV

See the quail and manna in exodus 16...
The Sabbath began in the ‘day’ because it was collected early each day before the sun would melt it, except on the seventh day. No manna was found..
And they were commanded to consume and not let it any of it stay til the next morning...they ate quail at night and manna in the day.(exodus 16:8)

Now exodus 16:22-23

22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

23 And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, TOMORROW is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
They did and it didn’t go rotten like the other days.

Now Verse 25:25 And Moses said, Eat that TODAY; for today is a sabbath unto the Lord: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

Moses ddnt state it as this coming evening... But Tomorrow’s day light is the sabbath and it as confirmed to have come after the evening and morning they just collected the manna and cooked it on the sixth day.
just as Scripture tells us in Genesis.
