Have you not read about Mount Megiddo (Har-megiddo in Hebrew) and Revelation 16:12-21 ? I've heard about it, don't know too much about Megiddo though. (And yes, I've read Revelation, multiple times… that doesn't mean that I understand it all, and I don't think [perfect] understanding is required to be blessed thereby: the Holy spirit will reveal what is hidden in its due time.)

The point is:
Your suspicions are spot on.
They will go there to fight against each other.
But when Jesus returns, a "False" spiritual leader will convince them to unite together and fight against "Our Returning Savior".
