Just curious, but I (as a non-Catholic Christian) just want to ask any Catholic friends on here, if you at times personally (or even in a Mass/Church setting) ever use ANY Protestant made media that glorify Jesus (and by extension his apostles and the Old Testament saints)?
Do you ever listen to "Christian" music that was created by evangelical Christians, and played on such radio networks suck as K-LOVE, or ever read/watch any sermons by evangelists/pastors such as Bill Graham (and family), John Piper, etc..
Do you ever use Protestant produced Bible-studies?
I know that for myself, I HAVE Obviously watched such classic Christian movies such as Jesus of Nazareth, and The Passion (which were obviously Catholic produced films), and have caught your ETWN network from time to time (though I don't agree with the theology sometimes).

While this is a very pleasant thought it's not what Scripture tells us.
Rom. 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.
The idea that there are paths to salvation other than through Faith Alone in Jesus Christ Alone is a different gospel than what we see in Scripture.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way , the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Theis is why Evangelical Christian churches commit so much time, energy and money to missions.

I would add that I grew up in a Catholic neighborhood, went to Catholic grammar and High School and had basically Catholic friends until College. At NO time did I ever hear or ever discuss anything protestant - it was as if they did not exist.
In College I was the only gentile in an all Jewish fraternity and never did I hear them mention a protestant.
all’s fine until we moved to the country - oh boy still never heard a peep from Catholics but heard a ton of anti-Catholic bigotry from protestants.. whew.. the amount and variety was amazing.
it appears that a good deal of their theology is pure, unadulterated anti-Catholicism... just breathtaking in scope.
The best part is - it totally strengthened my faith - like a rock.

Been there, how would it strengthen our faith if it was easy. I actually had someone from the parish ask me if chicken was considered meat. My reply made her look very sad.
Did anyone call ahead to explain the dietary restrictions? Or were you happy with creating conflict? We host kids parties all the time and knowing the dreaded peanut allergies out there always ask if there are restrictions. Parents today are very mindful of this. Seems the half of Catholics there someone should have spoke up. Chances are they have observed Catholics not being very observant.
BTW did you in some way share the Good News with your lost hosts or invite them to church. Or did you just clutch the bits of pepperoni in your fists and furiously scream HERETIC!!!
Oh, BTW...I don’t believe you. There is always one kid who just wants cheese pizza and not everyone likes pepperoni. I am sure there was a veggie pizza or cheese pizza available. You just like creating conflict that is not there. I think you were angry they were serving meat at all.

I would suggest that you are not alone in mission work.

I believe that due to size the Catholic Church outspends Evangelicals 3 or 4 to 1 on missions, but we do it out of the same need to spread the Gospel to the folks who have never heard it.

Doesn’t scripture say that when you fast, you shouldn’t let anyone know you are fasting and that you should be of good cheer? I think Lurking was being very much like Jesus by adhering to Lenten tradition, while not bringing attention to himself, thus not bring down the party. (Every host feels bad when someone is not having a good time.)
Or were you happy with creating conflict?

I don’t know where you come from but we would have died rather than embarrass our young host, who did a great job of keeping 10 eight year old boys happy.
PS as if it matters to you the kids got the cheese the parents got the pepperoni.

The sad part about this is that it has an effect on uniting conservatives. Many Catholics, especially those who are removed from their immigrant roots, are conservative (e.g. Scalia and Alito) Catholic conservatives, however, are sometimes wary that in dealing with some (but by no means all or even the majority) of evangelicals, the issue about their faith is going to come up - and not in a good way. I don’t get offended when someone asks me if I would like to go their church. But, after I’ve explained that I’m a Catholic they should let the issue drop.
If one is fasting then maybe a pizza party is not the place to be. The host should not have extended an invite if they knew half the guests would be fasting. Have the party on Saturday.
An example. In Texas Wednesday evenings are church nights for most here. A tradition Catholics have adopted too for church activities or Bible studies. Rule of thumb? Don’t schedule baseball practice on Wednesdays and during Catholic Holy week don’t schedule games or practices on Good Friday.
I was not aware there had been so many previous translations...but for whatever reason, Luther’s was considered the ‘game changer’. Probably because his translation coincided with modern printing techniques, and more could get printed.

the first twenty years of my life we NEVER ate meat on ANY Friday Lent or not, so we were supposed to avoid all meetings that happened on that day??
We never avoided anything and no one ever knew or cared.
First of all as already pointed out to you - doing what you suggest would be unscriptural - as you are not supposed to let anyone know you are fasting or abstaining.
Is this like avoiding swimming because we have our period???
How was the protestant host supposed to know or care if the guests her son wants to invite are protestant or Catholic?

as Catholics we go to Church, we pray, we fast, we abstain and no one should be the wiser.

Fasting means the dietary requirements for limiting food on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On Fridays during Lent and on Ash Wednesday, Catholics abstain from eating meat.
But you’re right, the abstinence requirement means you can still enjoy plenty of good food.

One of my favorite Contemporary Christian songs is “Glorious Day” by Casting Crowns, straight forward theology (which btw was based itself on a protestant hymn), but I can’t see anyone that calls themselves “Christian” would ever find fault in this message.
