I watched Catholic drinking habits in my family at every wedding, baptism, first communion party, and amongst my Catholic co-workers at every company picnic or other social gathering. Falling over drunk is no good testimony of Catholic drinking patterns.
The reason I didn’t want an open bar for my wedding. Those relatives would drink themselves under the table if they could get all the booze they wanted for free.
No thanks.

Being career Army, I can say that I’ve attended enough functions, in the “old Army” of the 70s and 80s where there were a good number of attendees who got ‘falling over drunk’ and their personal religious beliefs had nothing to do with it.
Is it time for beer call yet?
There is a Catholic Church in my neighborhood that celebrates Octoberfest every year by having a big beer garden on church property. Catholics A&E notorious boozers.
I lived in heavily Catholic South Boston for some time years ago, and there was a barrom like on every corner. And much spiritual coldness as well.
