NAU Joel 2:32 "And it will come about that whoever calls on the name Jesus is the English translation from the Koine Greek from the Hebrew name: Joshua. Joshua means YHvH is my salvation or YHvH be my salvation. So when you call on the NAME of Jesus, When Paul says all will be saved who call upon His NAME,
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
what does that mean ? NAU Romans 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON
Or 1 Ki. 18:24; 2 Ki. 5:11; Isa. 44:5; 48:2; Zeph. 3:9; Rom. 10:13; 1 Co. 1:2
THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."
of YHvH Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
There will be those who escape, As YHvH has said, Even among
the survivors whom YHvH calls.
See: 2 Sam. 22:47; Ps. 18:46; Isa. 12:2; 56:1
you are actually saying "YHvH be my salvation" !
Great post.
Hebrew word that seems closest to allah (in sound) is a verb for “he went up”. Not by any means an expert but it doesn’t seem to be a name for the Lord to me. Some words have the same sound but have vastly different meanings. Good study though for the names of GOD. My understanding is that the tetragrammaton is never pronounced in Hebrew as the vowels in the original text are unclear. Since the third commandment warned against misusing the name of God (even unintentionally) the four letter name is never attempted therefore the word Adonai is substituted. Interesting.
Holy Father...
Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem;
Creatorem caeli et terrae.
Et in Jesum Christum,
Filium eius unicum, Dominum nostrum;
qui conceptus est
de Spiritu Sancto,
natus ex Maria virgine;
passus sub Pontio Pilato,
crucifixus, mortuus, et sepultus;
descendit ad inferos;
tertia die resurrexit a mortuis;
ascendit ad caelos;
sedet ad dexteram Dei Patris omnipotentis;
inde venturus est
iudicare vivos et mortuos.
Credo in Spiritum Sanctum;
sanctam ecclesiam catholicam;
sanctorum communionem;
remissionem peccatorum;
carnis resurrectionem;
vitam aeternam. Amen.
In English:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived
by the power of the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary,
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
he will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen

In The Great Courses “Old Testament Part 1” Amy Jill-Levine speculates that “Yahweh” might have been paired to the thousands of ancient Hebrew troops screaming “YAH!” as a horrendous battle cry.
It's only fitting, though, isn't it?
