Problem with Catholic diocese was the cover-up.

I have a problem with that as well.
It wasn't so much the sodomite infestation that was the problem. I could understand why the Roman Church might have had a higher infestation rate (although this article says otherwise) than others, because I believe their seminaries were targeted in the 60s and 70s. Sodomites saw it as an easy place to hide out, and to prey on unsuspecting young boys. The Roman Church could do little to prevent this plague. Where they fell down, and where their actions were an abomination, was when they did not turn these felons over to the Law, and even worse they transferred them to other unsuspecting dioceses. That was unfathomable.

FACT: You would never know it from the media’s lurid and obsessive coverage, but the vast bulk of reported cases of abuse stem only from a historical anomaly, as most allegations occurred during only a small sliver of time during the Sexual Revolution from the 1960s to the early 1980s. And despite media suggestions of dark conspiracies and cover-ups, the Church – like every other institution at the time – simply followed the then-prevailing view of experts in the field that offenders could be successfully rehabilitated and sent accused priests off for treatment, rather than reporting them to police, which resulted in a temporary spike in recidivism.

The failure to deal with homosexuals owed much to buying into the agenda of the mental health community, which is that the perps were anomalies and that could, like alcoholics, could with therapy learn to control their impulses. In other words, the same way was they had managed alcoholism, always a major problem in the priesthood. But they ignored that drunks were not organizing politically to convince the world that alcoholism is normal behavior, that it is wrong to suppress such behavior. Then there was that significant percent of clergy who rejected the teachings of the Church about the wrongness of homosexuality, just as there was that significant percent who rejected its teachings on contraception and abortion. So there is that fifth column in the Church who were (are?) determined to reshape the Church in their image.
