A translation should be judged on it’s own merits. Simple.

“A translation should be judged on it’s own merits. Simple.”

But your committee only had one guy who even had even a rudimentary understanding of what he was claiming to do, while we have centuries of Doctors who would regard the merits of this work to be but trash.

Note this. Raymond Franz, former member of the Governing Body, says:

“Fred Franz (Raymond Franz’s uncle, who later became WBTS President), however, was the only one with sufficient knowledge of the Bible languages to attempt translation of this kind. He had studied Greek for two years in the University of Cincinnati but was only self-taught in Hebrew” (Crisis of Conscience, 50).

So you want us to believe that this loser trumps 2,000 years of Christianity, and that anyone who disagrees with him is “mentally diseased,” as they put down in their original “translation” of 1 Tim

“If any man teaches other doctrine and does not assent to the healthful words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, nor to the teaching that accords with godly devotion, he is puffed up [with pride], not understanding anything, but being mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words. From these things spring envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions.” – 1 Tim 6:3,4 New World Translation

Note the words “MENTALLY DISEASED”. Here it is in practice:

“An article published in July’s edition of The Watchtower warns followers to stay clear of “false teachers” who are condemned as being “mentally diseased” apostates who should be avoided at all costs. “Suppose that a doctor told you to avoid contact with someone who is infected with a contagious, deadly disease,” the article reads. “You would know what the doctor means, and you would strictly heed his warning. Well, apostates are ‘mentally diseased’, and they seek to infect others with their disloyal teachings.”

Though the latest edition of the NWT has changed the offending phrase to:

“He is obsessed with arguments and debates about words.”

Maybe Franz should have stayed in school so he didn’t make mistakes like that, eh?

Dunno about you, but I’ll rather stick with people who don’t hide their names in order to avoid criticism and accountability for their “translation” choices.
