My husband loves the superfun rock band church we go to. He grew up Lutheran and rarely went to church until we started going to the very modern church.
In our area (San Jose), the modern evangelical churches have more conservative beliefs. The churches that have more traditional services like the Methodiist have very liberal churches.
That's like most of the Catholic churches around me. They preach "social justice" and the Evangelical churches preach Jesus and conservative values. I choose Jesus and morals (Evangelical/non-denominational) rather than amnesty and redistribution of wealth principles (Catholic church).
I know what you mean. My father recently left a traditional-worship ELCA church (because he wasn’t getting the Gospel at ALL) and now goes to a contemporary service church which is LCMS and very traditional in its beliefs. I’ve attended a few times and while I personally prefer traditional worship, I don’t see it teaching anything wrong, and I’ve seen the benefits that such worship has on his spiritual life.
