Catholic Family News ^ | 12/26/13 | John Vennari

Three initial areas where Pope Francis seems to echo Martini are his treatment of homosexuality, his claim that God should not be considered a “Catholic God,” and the present discussion to possibly permit divorced and remarried Catholics to receive the Eucharist.

The media and Catholic liberals are making so much hay out of the pope’s statement on homosexuality. It’s a shame because this pope is a powerful communicator who says so many beautiful, instructive, and consoling things. He is even a mystic saying wonderful things about the “gaze” of the Holy Face. But I suspect the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will be issuing clarifications from time to time. I fear for Cardinal Martini’s immortal soul but I pray for him. I’ve read that he had a lot of votes on the first ballot of the conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI.

“If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”

Taken straight out of the Catechism and also basically the same thing repeated by JP2 and Benedict before him. But for some strange reason, liberals love Francis and hated those two popes. Me thinks the liberals are in for a good awakening. This is the same person who spoke out loud and clear against homosexual “marriage” as Archbishop and called it the “father of lies” and child abuse.

He has also said abortion is murder. Any abortion, any time, anywhere.

But for some strange reason libs love him. Go figure.

“He is even a mystic saying wonderful things about the “gaze” of the Holy Face.”

What is that about. Not heard of it before.

He is a Jesuit. Liberals and “progressives” have a long history of political alliances with Jesuits.

True, but not all Jesuits are liberals. Perfect case in point
is Father Mitch Pacwa on EWTN. You won’t find a more conservative priest.

For Bergoglio, the most charitable observation we can make is that he is a man of sloppy statements

Hard to believe, considering his scientific background. As this article indicates, a visible pattern is forming. Ecumenism combined with "evangelization" seems to be his priority. Unfortunately, undermining the role and traditional dignity and trappings of the papacy, emphasizing the humanity of the Mother of God at the expense of her unique virtues and attributes, his contempt for "small-minded rules", Rosary Bouquets, lurking "pelagians", and the cultivation of a popular image that wins him a place on the cover of Time Magazine and worldly approval because he projects an image of tolerance uber doctrine are completely in line with ecumenism at the expense of the Faith.

Malachi Martin was a Jesuit, but he got better.

“Who am I to judge?” is not in the Catechism Nos.2357-2359. I know this is a strong Pro-Life/Pro-Family pope. I read everything he says. But surely he is savvy enough to know how deceitful the media is everywhere. I remain puzzled by the two interview statements “Who am I to judge?” and “We cannot insist only on these (Life) issues.”
These statements are being abused by the media to portray him as one of them and are being taken by low-information Catholics as signs that the Pope is moving the Church towards capitulation on these issues. When the gay magazine “The Advocate” names the pope its person of the year, isn’t it is a signal that some clarifying statements are in order? The pope’s prepared writings are wonderful, but why does he seem to get in trouble in interviews?

I agree. Maybe he’s trying to hard to get liberals to like him. One thing is certain, Catholic social doctrine on abortion and marriage is not changing. The Pope’s role is to safeguard the truth as layed out in the Bible. When the liberals finally really this they’ll attack the Pope like rabid dogs.

Here are some I have jotted down.

“We turn to you, (Saint) Francis, and we ask you: Teach us to remain before the Cross, to let the Crucified Christ gaze upon us, to let ourselves be forgiven and recreated by his love.” -Pope Francis, Assisi, October 4, 2013

“Mother (Mary), look upon us. Your gaze leads us to God.”
-Pope Francis, Homily, September 22, 2013, Shrine of Our Lady of Bonaria, Cagliari, Sardinia

“In the fragile human being each one of us is invited to recognize the face of the Lord, who in his human flesh experienced indifference, and the solitude to which we often condemn the poorest, both in developing countries and in countries that are well-off. Every unborn child, but condemned unjustly to be aborted, has the face of Jesus Christ, has the face of the Lord, which even before birth, and then as soon as born experiences the refusal of the world. And every old person and - I spoke about the child: let us go to the elderly, another point! And every older person, even if infirm or at the end of her days, bears herself the face of Christ. They can’t be thrown away, as the throw-away culture proposes to us! They can’t be thrown away! -Pope Francis to members of the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations, Rome, September 20, 2013
