The Christian faith has not been tried and found wanting. It has rather been found difficult and left untried. Chesterton
I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. The story of Jesus is either the greatest event in history or the cruelest hoax. If it is a hoax, then the whole of the Christian message crumbles together with the hopes of those multitudes of lives built on his name. The apostle Paul said:
And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up; if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. -1 Corinthians 15:14-19 (NKJV)
But if the story is true, then this world has been hit with extraordinary news of earth-shaking consequences. Have you taken the trouble to decide which it is?
In a matter this weighty, it is in your interest to explore the truth or falsity of Christ's claims. Amazingly however, many people who don't believe have never bothered to explore the evidence in support of Jesus,[1] but to the contrary, often run away from it. At the same time, many Christians themselves are not sure, at bottom, whether the claims of their faith are solid. Is the Christian claim a hoax? Is it just wishful thinking? Or is it actually true?

He is not saying he is the father..you entirely miss his meaning. Also, sadly you types base your whole faith of Jesus being God on these words that also have many more that show quite the contrary...you appeal to words that fit what you want, yet do indeed miss the very meaning of them.
***By all means, let us know what is the true meaning of His words throughout scripture when the plain reading suggests that He is claiming equality with God.

Since you will no doubt blithely ignore such vast evidence, I suggest that your heretical views are completely unsupported.
BUT YOU WILL NOT SEE.
***Hmmm, all caps. You’re getting shrill.
Yup. It would appear that heresies are allowed on open threads. At least they are not allowed on caucus threads. So if I learn anything from this thread I will post it here

Similarly, there is an open thread on the News/Activism forum that such heresies have been openly promoted, so if I learn anything there I will also post it on the caucus thread.

These are interesting times.
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son (1 John 2:22).

oh..what is that matter? You are a strong Christian but you cannot handle a little criticism? I see...have to report me to the authority....yep, that is a real strong man of faith alright.
***I’m tired of heretics and antichristian trolls polluting threads.

Well, it is the Christmas season. Some of us can’t break away, no doubt.
This thread is about whether Jesus is God, not pre-trib or posttrib or mid-trib or any of that stuff. Try to purchase a clue.
Maybe if you put forth simple and straightforward historical arguments that didn’t involve twisting scripture then trinitarians might listen to you. There was a time when I was more than willing to listen to such arguments. But they not only fell flat, they revealed themselves to be spiritually dangerous and lies from the pit of Hell. So, take Jesus’s vehemence to heart and don’t listen to the false teachers, the ‘sons of the devil’ who would deny Jesus’s authority.
Great points.
FWIW.
Here’s a great newfound website:
Confront the evidence rather than blithely ignoring it.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/3104583/posts
You simply are not being honest with straightforward historical evidence.
It’s is difficult to continue to be civil with people who are willfully ignorant, or dishonest...
***Why bother? Jesus had very harsh words for the false teachers of His day, calling them ‘vipers’ and ‘sons of their father the devil’. If God-clad-in-human-flesh didn’t uphold such a standard of civility with these guys, why should we?

I have plenty of value to contribute, and if you can’t formulate a coherent sentence then maybe it’s time for you to run along. There’s a lad, thank you.
the conflict over mans sins was taken up into the Trinity itself.
***well said. I like to think of it in the mathematical terms of infinite...

not a fair translation
*** I notice you keep twisting the plain meanings of scripture. Such an endeavor becomes impossible in light of all the scriptural evidence.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/3104583/posts
No doubt this is why you do not respond to the posts where you’ve been confronted with this information.
Then by all means start presenting some valid historical arguments that don’t involve throwing scripture under the bus.
However, on that particular point that Jesus is not God, they are correct.
***There’s a simple historical way to show that JW’s and others are engaged in scripture twisting. You choose 10 sections of the new testament *in greek, like an interlinear new testament* at random, and 10 sections that point to the deity of Christ like John1:1. Bring them to a greek historian at a university near you. Pay him $50 to translate those 20 passages, and compare them to various translations. You’ll see quickly that JW’s and idealogically driven bowlsheetarians will be stuck with a piece of trash as a translation.
we get a glimpse of how the concept of the Trinity was not introduced into Christianity until close to four hundred years after Jesus
***What a bunch of horse manure. The evidence that Jesus claimed equality with God is from the first century. That post that you so blithely ignore contains much of that evidence.

If you are going to reference one verse from the NET Bible commentary, use the rest as well within context. They explain quite nicely the verse you think is difficulty.
Is it a habit to switch bible versions to find the most pliable to your view?
***For those who deny the deity of Christ, it usually is a habit.
It’s probably just his own favorite way of denigrating christians. There’s plenty of non-trinitarians who are not involved with cults.
You can call people cult members
***Where?
Brainwashing is a pretty well defined practice and a lot of what goes on in Churches could rightly be described that way. That is not personal but an objective fact.
***But here on the religion forum such nonsense is supposed to be removed. So... stop doing it.
