The Republican Party got the Civil Rights Act passed, it was the Southern Democrats (”Dixiecrats”) who voted against passage. Google it. BTW, Martin Luther King, Jr. and most of his compatriots were registered Republicans. Remember, it was President Lincoln (R-IL) who freed the slaves, not a Democrat.
