Cardinal Dolan didn't help matters any when he said recently the Catholic church would be among Obamacare's "biggest cheerleaders" were it not for the birth control/abortion provisions.
The Pope can try to distance himself from "liberation theology" all he wants, but extricating that line of thinking from others in the church leadership will take some serious work.
Even the Pope in his latest document said that politicians should push for "guaranteed" health care.
I know. Cardinal Dolan has not been helpful, in far more cases than he has been helpful.
I’m just going to say it—many of these older and high ranking bishops seem to have fallen victim of a damn poor education themselves, along with most Americans subjected to socialist curriculum decades ago.
JPII was a gift. He knew communism, he was more devoutly educated, articulate, unafraid, and knew the Western mind, capitalism (warts included), and offended few, but for the Left.
I simply believe dear Pope Francis never had the same intellectual advantages of JPII, but was raised in a narrower universe of poverty, living among and serving the extremely impoverished, ministering under Leftist propaganda and even corrupt regimes who who were into wealth and power at the expense of the people.
(My theory anyway.) :/
