Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are starting to sour on the new pope.
In response to Pope Francis first Apostolic Exhortation, in which the pontiff denounced trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world, these two paragons of the far right both of whom regularly invoke the teachings of Jesus to bolster their own political views have suddenly turned their backs on the man whose actual job description is to speak for Jesus.
Sarah Palin complained that Pope Francis sounded kind of liberal in his statements decrying the growing global income equality between the rich and the poor (she has since apologized).
Rush Limbaugh went one step further. This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope, he harrumphed into his giant microphone.
Limbaugh, in his trademarked conspiratorial style, speculated that the popes tirade against widespread corruption and self-serving tax evasion must have been forced upon him by somebody else. Somebody has either written this for [the pope] or gotten to him, he said.
Limbaugh is right. Somebody did get to Pope Francis. It was Jesus....

I occasionally read thru that book. Its interesting to read since I'm not catholic so its interesting to read these things from the catholic viewpoint.
I was speaking of Reza.
The Pope gets a pass even though I am not Catholic.
He may be a good man and I don’t expect him to understand economics she is an Argentinian and the times he grew up in were during fascist regimes.
He was likely influenced by the mantras of radicals, communists, nationalists and the several “revolutions” also left an imprint on him.
At the heart of these revolutions was typical Marxist ideals or certain hegemony.
To this Pope and under those influences he probably believes “We are our brothers keeper” which, of course, is wholly unbiblical and in direct conflict with not only the right of the individual but, assumes a certain view that collective rights make man better, thought thought process requires one to subsume themselves and not pursue their happiness but, simply grab an oar to row a boat, with the throngs not knowing their destiny nor giving it a thought.
To this Pope we are all equal in the flesh. We are not.God that each person improve themselves and in so doing improve mankind.
That a person can have free thought and act on those things his mind conceives in the last 150 years has brought more innovation in science , economics, the equal application of law, personal. and property rights and equality of all men on earth is why the world is better off than in all of history.
I don’t believe the Pope thought those things through in expressing himself.
Man created ice and now many people find relief from the heat.
Man created the railroad and goods are shipped everywhere.
Man created flight and can be anywhere on earth in a day or two to sell their ideas and goods.
Man created the telephone and other communications services. This enables man to give information or receive information instantly .
It makes work and communications easier, faster. and more productive.
Man created TV/radio and information is disseminated instantly.
Man created modern medical procedures, devices and tools that save lives and improve quality of life.
Man improved technologies of agriculture so much that nations can feed other nations, where they otherwise would have perished.
I could go on but, the bottom line is while these things were created more people had and found opportunity for employment.
That in turn frees people to not only provide for their families but, gives them the opportunity to consider and acquire a better station in life while providing a service to man.
Rant off
Doh!
LOL They really dont think we are so stupid as to think the Vatican actually leaves it to others to translate what they put out do they? Or is the Vatican that stupid as to not put out those releases in English to avoid that sort of mistranslation?
What would the vicar of Satan’s ‘christ’ know about the Son of Yehova?
De La Salle and Santa Clara are not what I would call Christian, nor Patriotic schools.
They ‘Evangelize’ for Islamism.
The current economic system (a market-oriented economy in the context of democratic government), the Pope says, is unjust at its root.
This is contradicted by Rerum Novarum and Centisiums Annos. It seems to me that if one Pope can declare the economic system endorsed by prior Popes as “unjust at its root,” and not merely as flawed, then there can be no claim of Papal infallibility.
During the past two hundred years, the Catholics have swayed back and forth between Monarchy and Fascism, and between these two and Liberalism. And now we have a Pope who declares Liberalism as “unjust at its root,” without offering an alternative.
Jesus said, “My Kingdom is not of this world.” Religious leaders who pretend to speak for Jesus in matters of politics and economics reveal only that they do not understand how revolutionary is the Gospel message.
Again, why should we be taking lessons on Christian morality & the role of the Pope from an Iranian Islamofascist?
This thread should be about the mullahs’ puppet Reza Aslan, not about anyone or anything else.
IOW, consider the source.
While, on the 500th anniversary of Luther’s nailing his theses onto the door, the Catholics and Lutherans agreed that it is by faith alone that we are saved, and that our good works merely manifest our thankfulness is being saved, and that each church is essentially correct in his proclamation of the essence of the faith, it is instructive to consider that Luther (also) erred in matters of politics and economics. Luther said it was a mortal sin to disobey the princes of this world. Adolf Hitler showed that ruling to be an error.
The part of the Exhortation that is catching flack was from a work by the Pope when he was still a Cardinal. Lifted almost verbatim.
It is, of course, possible, that the Holy Spirit, fore-knowing that this man would be elevated to Pope, inspired this part prior to his becoming Pope. Then, again, it is possible that the Holy Spirit prevented this man from issuing this document as an Encyclical because of the error in this part.
But, however Catholics try to make sense of this Exhortation, from a non-Catholic point of view, it’s as though he has just decreed that Jupiter has no moons.
Dinesh Dsouza tells of a fellow Indian native who told him he wanted to come to America because I really want to move to a country where the poor people are fat.Tell the pope that if he actually wants fewer poor - not fewer poor, but actually fewer poor - he should learn of the history of American development. It is not a mere matter of the blessings of land and minerals and water, but crucially it is a matter of freedom - and thus, a matter of capitalism.
Tell the pope that capitalism is consistent with the least expense and greatest benefit. Socialism, OTOH, is consistent with moral posturing and inconsistent with prosperity for the preponderance of the people.Common Sense SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.
Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence; the palaces of kings are built upon the ruins of the bowers of paradise. For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest; and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him, out of two evils to choose the least. Wherefore, security being the true design and end of government, it unanswerably follows that whatever form thereof appears most likely to ensure it to us, with the least expense and greatest benefit, is preferable to all others.
BTW, Margaret Thatcher was right - the Good Samaritan had money - and good credit, too. It is not his poverty but his generosity for which he is known. Socialism is the enemy of generosity because it is the enemy of gratitude first. Happy Thanksgiving!
All due respect to Rush, but I don’t think Pope Francis was thinking just or even primarily about American capitalism. It’s not all about us. And even if he were, he wasn’t elected and isn’t paid to be a spokesman for AEI or Heritage.
And as for the Palin thing, she said right off that a lot of what he says comes off liberal the way it’s reported, which is true, which makes it important to go to the source for yourself, which is also true.
And honestly, although Reza Aslan’s on faculty at my alma mater, I’m not all that impressed.
The same thing happened when Benedict XVI released Caritas in Veritate (if you’ll recall).
There are going to be some who are utterly convinced that ANY Pope is a socialist. You won’t change their minds so don’t bother trying.
There are some who are simply reacting to media reports.
My suggestion for you two is to study the document and let people have their rants. When the smoke clears, those who were utterly convinced that Catholicism is socialist are still going to believe what they’ll believe and neither you nor I will change their thinking (chances are, they practice some variety of “prosperity gospel”...whether they are Christian or not). Those who are simply reacting then may be able to listen.
Someone needs to remind the writer who Jesus was speaking to in John 21 when said “feed my sheep”. Here’s a hint: it wasn’t to anyone involved with government.
It was to Peter. The Christian is commanded to help where he or she can. The government, on the other hand, is not.

“Why does not the pope, whose wealth is to-day greater than the riches of the richest, build just this one church of St. Peter with his own money, rather than with the money of poor believers?”
I am surprised that this article was posted on FR, much less commented on, by anyone. Reza Aslan is a Muslim focused on deceiving Christians about their own religion: http://www.jihadwatch.org/2013/11/reza-aslan-board-member-of-islamic-republic-lobbying-group-niac-cheers-iran-nuke-capitulation.html
I will. The bible says: "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." (1 Timother 2:5)
We believers don't need a "Pope". This is a name of blasphemy according to Jesus. See Matthew 23:9. The terms "Father" and "Pope" (Papa) we are commanded not to use in reference to religious "superiors." There aren't any. No man stands between me and Jesus. And the only man which stands between me and God is the man Christ Jesus.
The Catholic "church" is an instrument of antichrist.
let me make it simple..I am more then willing to give what I have to my fellow man..that is my free will granted by God...but my fellow man also has free will granted by God and I will not force my fellow man to give according to my will .remove his free will and Christ acts mean nothing..he just another victim of the state...remove your free will and your Christ like acts mean nothing your also just a victim of the state.....you add force to love it becomes rape
“After Rushs Tuesday rant about the story, he said that he heard that the translation was not accurate. It will remain to be seen whether or not the original English translation is actually the true interpretation of Pope Franciss words.”
Conservative Catholics say that automatically, and that is probably what Rush is hearing. I’ve seen no evidence that Francis did not say these words. I have seen evidence, however, of Catholics twisting or avoiding his words as much as possible.
Imagine if you were in a religion where the views of the main guy could literally make or break your faith. That’s the greatest weakness of Catholicism, really, their dependence on one guy for their faith and morals.
