I can’t argue with you on that! The so-called leadership makes me sick. They follow the world and hide it behind terms like “reconciling” and phrases like “God reveals himself anew with each generation”. The typical rank-and-file Methodist doesn’t even know what’s going on, so when I read these posts about “the Methodists”, I think of those people (whom I represent at AC) and not the privileged elders and bishops. I also think of those wonderful Methodists in Africa who are trying to keep us holy, even as the American jurisdictions try to march us off to hell.
When one conjoins authority and stupidity the bastard offspring is arrogance. This quintessentially describes the authority of the United Methodist church. The arogance of ignorance is on full display in the Council of Bishops of the UMC.
