I love that verse. Those who think that believers will go through the tribulation need to memorize it.

Comparing Scripture with Scripture is lost on them. Bible study is about searching the Scriptures, comparing them, knowing who said what, when, and who they were speaking to or about, understanding that all the Bible is for our understanding, but it is not all for our doing today. We are to recognize the divisions and distinctions in GOd’s word that He Himself has placed there. But it is CRUCIAL to know where you are in God’s program as you study the Bible. Keeping the right Scriptures for the right time is essential. Just a small example would be to compare Matt. 6:14,15 with Eph. 4:32. Both are Scriptures from the NT. But they are DIFFERENT. WHICH is right for today?

>> There are 3 definite events - receiving Christ; physical baptism (an outward symbol of an inward heart change); and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit whereby the evidence of this baptism is the speaking in other tongues. And from that fallacy springs the sin of “better than thow”. Scripture clearly shows that all believers have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 15:8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness by granting them the holy Spirit just as he did us. 9 He made no distinction between us and them, for by faith he purified their hearts. It also clearly shows that not all will be given the gift of tongues or any other gift.

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills.

You see, not all are given the gift of tongues upon the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

And those that don’t are subject to the erroneous teachings of those who don’t. The blind leading the blind. So much confusion is avoided when the word is rightly divided.

We have to remember to study the Gospels in the light of the cross and empty tomb. If we don’t we come to the conclusion Jesus came to earth to deliver Sinai 2.

I came across this teaching on tongues by RC Sproul while doing some research on the Word of Faith movement.

The Strange Fire Conference can be found here...

The sermon by RC Sproul is here

Here is also an interesting comment by an attendee...

There is also this verse ... 1 Corinthians 14:22 Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.

Jews seek for a sign. We don't need a sign. We walk by faith.

The “Gifts of the Spirit” are separate from the “gift” of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.

I fail to find the word EVIDENCE mentioned in the Scriptures.

The scripture in Acts says “... and they ALL SPOKE IN OTHER TONGUES”.

That's NOT how the Scripture reads...

NIV
Acts 2:4
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

KJV

Acts 2:4
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

since RCs refer to their magisterium as the alternative to private interpretation and its the errors, where is your denial of the regeneration of Cornelius and co. before baptism taught? And officially?

what’s the Latin expression for it speaks for itself?

This along with “Paul was praying” shows the inner portion of the cup was clean before the outer portion of the cup was clean.

hmm, apparently the Lord sent Ananias to Paul to teach him false doctrine, knowing it would become part of the Scriptures. okey, dokey.

Water baptism is our “religious ceremony” or act of the Christian that is regarded as an outward and visible sign of inward and spiritual divine grace.

ok, finally someone puts in writing what they think baptism is. now, if only some Scripture was provided.

I don't know about GOD; but I've heard that NATURE abhors a vacuum.

And it HURTS a lot less than that OTHER sign.

The one required at eight days old.

You may have missed my post where the same Paul provides the Gospel message:

Romans 10:5-15 NASB

For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness. But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: “D o not say in your heart , ‘W ho will ascend into heaven ?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), or ‘W ho will descend into the abyss ?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” But what does it say? “T he word is near you , in your mouth and in your heart “-that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “W hoever believes in H im will not be disappointed .” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “W hoever will call on the name of the L ord will be saved .” How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things !”
