Group steps in for US bishops, collects Vatican-requested data
WASHINGTON A Catholic nonprofit in the D.C. area is offering to collect responses from Catholics to a Vatican survey asking their opinions on church teachings on contraception, same-sex marriage and divorce. [Sure! Let them circulate the survey and then let them have the raw data. What could possibly go wrong?]
The survey was sent by the Vatican in mid-October to national bishops’ conferences around the world. An accompanying letter signed by Archbishop Lorenzo Baldisseri asks that the conferences distribute the poll “immediately as widely as possible to deaneries and parishes so that input from local sources can be received.”But it is unclear what steps the U.S. bishops’ conference, currently headed by New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, will take to pursue such an effort.
The nonprofit, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, has made a survey based on the Vatican’s questionnaire available online. [So, let's be clear about this. The catholic Left is driving their readership to the survey, and then a catholic Left group is going to handle the data.]
Christopher Hale, a senior fellow with the group, said in an email that his organization sent a link to the survey via email to its some 30,000 members Friday morning. Within two hours, Hale said, the group had seen more than 300 responses.
“Our response has been overwhelming,” Hale said. “We’ve already hundreds of people answer the survey with beautiful or distressing stories about their experience with their local church life.”

Working on an email to my pastor right now. Lord, it's full-time work swatting down these damn frauds.
I’ve grown very suspicious of organizations that say they’re for the “common good”. Most often “common good” translates into expanding the government and giving statists and the ruling class more power.
I just scrolled down this very long list of organizations. Where do they get their money? Is any money coming from the Church? Does some of it come from government money? Does some of it come from private foundations?
If some of the money comes from the Church it should be stopped. If it comes from the government, there should be a law forbidding the state to interfere with church doctrine, after all what is the 1st Amendment for? If the money comes from a private foundation, it should be sued for false labeling. There are laws against stealing trademarked material, shouldn’t it also be against the law to steal a religion’s basic doctrines and misrepresnet them? No one should interfere with a church and change the churches teachings.
I’m confused. I thought I read in ebbtide’s recent thread that the USCCB decided not to have the laity respond to these surveys. If that is the case, how could the OP possibly be true?
I also think that the Irish identity and history plays a big part of this. Here is Massachusetts practically everybody in politics has an Irish name, so there is the unholy trinity of being an Irish-Catholic-Democrat. You can't seem to separate them. Every Saint Patrick's day the politicians and the Catholic clergy go to the local halls and have a St. Patrick's day dinner complete with jokes, songs and stories. It seems like a big Irish love-in. It looks like the priests have been too close to the Irish Catholic political leaders for too long.
At one time, the Democrats did not have any ideology that went directly against the Catholic church but now the Dems are arrogantly challenging the authority of the Catholic Church in its own realm. Even the funeral of Ted Kennedy was used as an opportunity to politic and take digs at the Catholic teachings.
The Knights of Columbus was a strong Catholic mens organization but it now has been taken over by the Democrat liberal politicians. Politicians like to belong to every kind of organization because it gives them the opportunity to network and build a group of political supporters. Now the politicians in the Knights of Columbus are actively subverting the churches role as a moral voice in the making of laws.
Had to stop right there. Who is the editor? Who decides the content material? Get involved! Don't have time to actually work on the bulletin, consider submitting an article .. or a suggestion. The great problem with parish bulletins is that those who create them rarely receive any feedback, much less suggestions for content material. As you know, I speak from personal experience :-)

I have yet to understand how these surveys will work, by parish, by lay people, by bishop or what.

It's pretty much the same throughout the northeast. The film Far and Away provides some insight into the world of Irish immigrants to the US. This "relationship" between immigrants and government has been passed down from one generation to another. They have failed to adjust their thinking to conform to church teaching.

Same thing is happening right now with Hispanics, except 10 times as bad.
I try to read as much as I can about the early Democrats in the 18 hundreds and 19 hundreds. It seems to be more of the same no matter what the city—one corrupt Democrat machine after another. These are the roots of the modern Democrat party and those roots go deep into the muck.
It's possible she just stuck it in there without reading it. I know it sounds like I'm saying, "She's not wicked, she's stupid" but you know, she's new, she's got a complicated job keeping everything coordinated, and I've got a feeling somebody gave her this article and said "Here's a nice article that's pro-pope and covers 6 column inches, stick it right there on page 5" and she just stuck it there w/o further ado.
It would be interesing to know who gave her the article.
I think I'm going to deal with her personally and gently on this, without taking it to the pastor. I'll offer to supply her with a "The Pope's Wisdom" column every week if she wants, and it'll be all short direct quotes --- which means it would be easy for her to adapt to any available space (you know how it is with parish bulletins.)

The Democrats fed into the fuedal thinking of most people of Europe. They had been in a fuedal system for many centuries in which a fuedal lord would rule over the people and provide security. This is a top down system in which people were not free to live where they wanted to and could not own their own property. These were perfect subjects for the Democrat party as in—just vote for anything with a “D” after its name and we will provide security for you. It is really disturbing to see how they kept this medieval behavior going on even to the present day.
