Many of them are. There are sincere people in every Church. But the Methodist Church cannot be the true Church of Christ. Traced back historically, it merges into Anglicanism. In 1728 John Wesley was ordained as an Anglican clergyman. He gathered together a group of earnest Anglicans who met for study and prayer, and who lived according to such strict rules that they were called"Methodists." They had no intention of leaving the Church of England. In 1738 John Wesley began his campaign as a revivalist preacher, and the hostility of Anglican authorities who resented his unorthodox ways led to the establishment of the separate"Wesleyan" or "Methodist" Church. Methodists teach salvation by faith in Christ and an experienced interior conversion. Apart from that they do not stand for any distinctive point of teaching or Church discipline. Formal Creeds and set forms of worship have little appeal for them.
SIGH... The true Church of Christ is not a denomination.
But members of Christs church will be found in the Methodist church, the Anglican church and the Roman Cath church.
What about the Church he established that supposedly existed before he did? That was my purpose in quoting the verse.
But why do you suppose that Simon bar Jonah at that point changed his name to Peter (the Rock)? What it to memorialize that pronouncement by Yeshuah? Just curious.
Is tradition to be believed ? Or the WORD of YHvH ? Or as Paul said in Act 17:11-12. Or John 5:39 Perhaps it was a quiz.
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
a myriad of theories here today:
A. the church of the catechumens went underground in the 4th century, only to re-emerge 1000 years later when it was ready
B. the church of the catechumens disappeared in the 4th century when the pagans took over.
C. the church has infiltrated all of the denominations and is working secretly.
D. The true believers lived before Christ and then became pagan afterward
He is threatening to begin to vomit a local church out of his mouth if it doesn't straiten out. This has nothing to do with the whole Church at large which will always exist regardless of local churches straying from his teachings. These two chapters in Revelation just go to prove how Christ is involved in and with his Church as he promised.
>>Mat 16:18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Gates do not attack. Gates are something to be attacked. When Jesus is talking about the gates of Hell, he is talking about them being assaulted by his church. Not the other way around.
>>John 14:26 But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you.
>>Mat 28:20 behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.
I never said that Jesus or the Holy Spirit took off and left us to our own devices. But, he does give us some room to screw up. The Roman church did accomplish great things even as it was rotting from within. The Orthodox Church recognized this and later, Europe recognized it and the Reformation was born. Remember that Luther did not seek to split the church. He wanted to REFORM it. But the Roman heirarchy refused to give up their power over men, even as the reformers were struggling to return Christ to the people, as Jesus himself had done in the Jewish context.
The Roman Church did not create Jesus. He gave all men The Way, with two great commandments and a commission. It was the Romans who turned it into a heirarchy of pseudo-nobility and rules.
I don’t think I understand what you are saying. Hate to be a pest, but could you elaborate a little?
My friend, you need to take that up with Christ; He said they do.
Anyway... "Gates" represent authority or powers. In the East traditionally in the old days officials of a city conducted business at the city gates.
many Methodists today, such as the lesbians ministers, are grateful that their church has saved them from folks like John Wesley, who was trapped in medieval pagan thinking.
Christ always existed.
“In the beginning was the Word”
Amen brother!
And the Word became flesh and established a Church; according to the historical records.
There were believers before Christ’s incarnation.
So they were of the church.
The Word became flesh to die and then live in payment for our sins (once for all).
Historical records.... please be careful which ‘records’ you put your faith in.
424 Moved by the grace of the Holy Spirit and drawn by the Father, we believe in Jesus and confess: 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' On the rock of this faith confessed by St. Peter, Christ built his Church. "To preach. . . the unsearchable riches of Christ"
>>I suppose you denounce this also?

The CCC is not scripture. I’m not going to denounce it or accept it. It is part of your church doctrine.
Gonzo started this thread by attacking Methodism. I ignored his attack on the Presbyterians this past weekend because I am not a Presbyterian or a Calvinist. He and some other members of the Roman church like to make these attacks and then go hide behind the doctrine of the Roman church as if that is the only truth there is. To you, it is. To me, it is not.
But the article was dead wrong about Methodism, like a 50 year old Wiki article written by a non-Methodist. If Gonzo wishes to post the radio replies about what the Roman church believes, I will not comment. But, when he starts attacking the denominations of others, then he better expect some pushback.
Uh oh!! My bad!!! And my apologies. I thought you were Catholic. I am NOT a Catholic.
..uh, what? You’re not Catholic?!? lol!
>>Uh oh!! My bad!!! And my apologies. I thought you were Catholic. I am NOT a Catholic.
LOL. OK. I’m a Methodist and a member of Christ’s royal priesthood, not Rome’s.
Took ya by surprise did I? HEhehehehe!
