Isn't Jesus addressing a certain person there? IIRC, John, "the disciple he loved."

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. -- from John 19
So there's some disconnect between your claim and the scripture you reference.

This is the problem one encounters with Scriptural literalists. A dying Christ gasping for his last breath could speak few words. Not carry on a dialogue. The Mother of Christ was not just a “mother” for John (John already had a mother) but for all mankind since she is the purest and most perfect of all creation in heaven and earth and Christ entrusted her to all of us. This why it was not just son behold thy mother, but also mother behold this son.
