"well I don’t question Rome’s doctrines

I freely admit I consider the new Pope to be a bit of a loose cannon"

Re-read your words very slowly...you are questioning Rome's decision about the "pope". So, you sit in judgment of Rome...and you use your own interpretation of Scripture to support your optimism. Hmmm.

Okay, so what? You have decided that Rome can err and that you may sit in judgment using the Scripture to comfort you with that possibility and you say, "So what?"?. Okay, my FRiend, here's what... That is precisely the kind of reasonable evaluation of Rome which brought about the Reformation. You have entered the realm of Martin Luther, John Calvin, Martin Zwingli, and a host of others who finally said...Rome has made a mistake.

In the case of the Reformers, they found hundreds of mistakes Rome made using the very document you are using...the Bible. They noticed that hundreds of years earlier, Rome wandered off the Gospel path and onto a road of self-made religion. Just as you have identified possible error with the selection of a "pope", they identified error with Rome's basis of salvation, Rome's need for priests, Rome's sacraments, Rome's purgatory, Rome's indulgences, Rome's Mary fetish. The list goes on.

If you are in a questioning mood (you already have driven outside of Rome's lines with your concern), you might as well consider further...could Rome make mistakes on other claims? We have found unequivocally, yes. The mistakes are radical and deep and important. But, the Bible (just as you have found) offers correction to those mistakes...the truth just does not lie with Rome.

Au contraire, if you do believe in a God who intervenes, then you have to believe either he/she/it was powerless to stop all of man's pain and suffering throughout time, or chose to ignore it. I believe neither.

I believe neither, too. Those are not the only two options. There are others.

He is not powerless and He is not ignoring it.

It is serving a purpose which we don't understand. Even if God explained it, we couldn't understand it.

The other thing to consider is that God is not turning a blind eye to it all It WILL be dealt with some day. Not just on our timetable, but that doesn't mean God isn't or won't address it.

Someone finding Christ is not the context we were discussing. Fail.

It's not a fail. You asked for proof that fasting works. That's what I have seen and experienced myself.

I really didn't think you'd accept it but it was an answer.

I freely admit I consider the new Pope to be a bit of a loose cannon

Then you are contradicting yourself.

If you have made the determination that the new pope is a bit of a loose cannon, then you must have some criteria for making that determination.

What is it then?

And that also puts you in the position of passing judgment on the choice of the Catholic church in choosing the man.

Under what authority do you pass judgment on the cardinals who voted him in? What is your standard used for making that determination?

I can say and think what I want as a serious Catholic metmom, I think Francis needs to think before he opens mouth and inserts foot

Sorry, but that's just a cop-out.
Bottom line is that there is no proof for any of it - it's all just faith.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
