They weren’t revolting against a “legitimate catholic authority”. They tried to reform the system by confronting a corrupt, sinful and entrenched catholic authority that refused to examine its heart.
It was the desire to reform a corrupt church which led to it being called the Reformation. You can call it whatever you want. I will refer to it as the Reformation.

Your argument is simplistic. And it is circular. Those points have been addresses. The “Reformation” was not everywhere the same, and it was certainly not wanted by the people of England. It was imposed by Henry VIII with great brutality.
I can't even prove that there is a God....but as far as your contention is concerned....to draw people away from the church that Jesus Christ, Himself, founded, and to have those lost souls increase to hundreds of millions over the centuries...cannot be a real good idea.
