Interesting that John Wayne, who directed the film The Alamo, would have a religious debate just before the final battle scene. However, as I have written in a post which may be read here, John Wayne, death bed Catholic convert, had a strong faith in God, even as he realized that in many ways he was not living properly. The film The Alamo was first and foremost Waynes love note to America, but I think Wayne was also making a statement about faith in God.
Waynes personal relationship with God is represented well in this clip, beginning at 9:26, that did not make it into the film.

I know a great kid named Crockett who’s a seventh generation cousin of Davey. There are a lot of Crocketts everywhere, probably all interrelated somehow.
