“And youre supposing correspondence from a jail inmate wasnt censored, edited or otherwise adulterated.”
You’ll have to provide evidence showing that that was case with Paul’s Roman letter or that he hid his real beliefs out of fear of that situation. The idea that Paul was writing satire reverses his apparent meaning. Occam’s Razor argues against you.
Paul’s satirical commentary would certainly have been known to and commented upon in the thousands of letters of the Ante-Nicene Fathers. That voluminous correspondence is always a problem for those attempting to make novel claims about the New Testament. If you can find one of the Apostolic Fathers making a satire claim then you would have an argument. Otherwise you’re just speculating without evidence.
Who can know for sure? I haven’t read many writings of Pre Nicene authorities, and defer.
I believe Romans 13: 1-7 is inconsistent with many other instances of behavior of heroes of the Bible (and Paul himself preaching in temples of Roman gods, which was against the law) to be suspect as satire or some sort of adulteration. You choose to take it as written. That’s fine
Unity where we agree.
Liberty where we disagree.
And Charity towards all.
Chuck Colson quoted that from a Saint I can’t recall, using it as an example of how Christians should relate to each other.
Yep, end the corporate income tax and all that goes away. Then you just need to stop paying people to preach.
Paying leader/s of the church is Biblical
Corporate tax has nothing to do with churches
My pastor.
Tom McCoy of Thompson Station Church here in middle Tennessee is very much a culture warrior who takes a strong stand every sunday
As do most conservative pastors in Dixie including many mega church types
Like anything else about White Culture its different outside Dixie
Weaker more diluted and likely more progressive
If I have to splain it y’all ain’t ever gonna get it
It's what gets pastors into trouble. Do they please their paymasters or God? Why do so many churches split up when a long time pastor dies or quits? Why do so many young pastors long for a mega-church or a radio gig?
Corporate tax has nothing to do with churches
Not so, the corporate income tax is the whole reason why "non-profits" exist at the whim of the IRS. Liberate one and you liberate another.
I get it.
It’s good to know your pastor’s a rock. We need a million more like him.
If you read a Bible you will find that tithing was for a specific purpose to support the religious leaders of the time, which allowed them not to worry about everyday necessities.
It may be a difficult concept have for you to understand, I don’t know. A religious leader devotes full time to the ministry, not whenever because they have to work to support a family, something you apparently are not familiar with.
Ok? Corporate tax is the reason non-profits exist, interesting.
Not sure what young pastors you know that long for mega churches, or why you apparently beleive God’s directive to support religious leaders is the very reason they get themselves into trouble.
Human frailty and sin is what gets them into trouble not God’s Word.
You don’t think that a paid professional clergy is a menace to God’s Word? Are you at all familiar with religious history since the time of Caesar Augustus? You are aware that Jesus was born into a world of apostate Jewry?
huh?
God’s Word says to support religious leaders, you have a problem with God’s Word take it up with Him.
Don’t you see the clear association between corporate taxation and the liberty of the churches? The system is designed to be politicized where pro-government churches cannot violate the IRS’s prohibitions, but anti-government churches can lose their NFP status and be dissolved by that same government.
End corporate taxation and you have no need for a corporate tax code which code contains the rules for NFP status. It’s a win-win scenario. Think about it my Dear Lady.
So are you saying that no young (or old) pastors long for a mega-church or radio gig? God’s directives are addressed to God’s church. Can that be a matter of human interpretation?
We agree completely that human beings get themselves in trouble with God’s Word and that’s the point of this conversation.
Do you know the definition of “sin”?
I have no idea what you are saying,
Try and give me an example.
I know what you apparently do not.
Once again, you have a problem with God’s Word take it up with Him, I do not need to defend Him, He can take care of Himself.
Which religious leaders are to be supported?
Good bye
Glass houses, stones, etc. Adieu.
