Savior, save, salvation and:
Baptism - “... in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us - baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 3:20-21)
Faith - “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that (note: grammatically “that” refers back to its proper antecedent, “faith”) not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Christ - “Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” (Luke 2:10-11)
I give only one verse for each, but there are many more that could be cited for the support of each.
Jesus saves.
Baptism saves.
Faith saves.
All are true. All are scripture. All are the very word and promise of God. None is to be set in opposition to the others. What God has joined, let not man separate. There is no contradiction here, but there is often misunderstanding, miseducation, and misguided zeal in defending the truth of one to the undermining of the truth of the others. The devil loves it when Christians play that game.
This is worth bearing in mind if this post is to initiate a profitable discussion.
***Baptism saves.***
The problem with that is too many people go into the baptistry a dry sinner, and simply come out a wet sinner.
Usually to please someone else and have no change in their life.
