The saints cannot pray for you...Don't tell them that! There are all sorts of miracles attributed to the saints. Jesus wants you to keep them busy; He honed them just for that!
Never can tell — the way things are going in America rright now.
Did I just hear someone bashing cat licks?
The chutzpah of this idjit!
AMEN, Iscool. This is SATAN’S domain. And he is the master of his domain. And will be until Christ returns.
You say what you think, and that falls squarely with your indoctrination, but the Scripture doesn't agree. First, those saints are all dead, sorry if you think or believe otherwise. Second, Satan can perform miracles.
1 Thessalonians 4: 13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lords word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Matthew 24: 24... For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.
26 So if anyone tells you, There he is, out in the wilderness, do not go out; or, Here he is, in the inner rooms, do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

2 Thessalonians 2: 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
Christ said he will be with us always.
Do you believe that or not?
Satan can perform miraclesONLY if Jesus lets him. Do you think Jesus would allow Satan to create miracles through His saints? Doesn't make any sense. These miracles are/were all positive, bringing people to a closer love of Christ.
I don’t know if you remember this or not, but I asked you not to post to me anymore. You have a habit of running to the RM every time you feel offended by something. It just got old to me. So, have a nice day. And remember: “But that Thy blood was shed for me...”
John 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
Thin skinned is as thin skinned does.
Let sleeping dogs lie...and do not interfere with hairball accumulation processes? hehheh
Oh, the irony.
Well at least we still have the freedom to rearrange the chairs without getting our heads chopped off!
Which takes us back to my first point, they're dead. Dead. No longer living. I realize that your indoctrination wants you to believe those lies, and I will continue to pray that the Holy Spirit can reach through that fog and grab you and shake you so that you can understand what Scripture says, not just what your church says that Scripture says.
I understand the difficulties that you have. I was raised in the Episcopal Church, which has most everything by way of ceremony and pomp, just not a pope. But God, in his infinite mercy and love reached down to me and, through his Holy Spirit, made known the fullness of his promises. The Holy Spirit has shown me truth. The Holy Spirit has revealed the error within what your church (and my father's church) trying to teach. You have bought it, hook, line, and sinker. Your indoctrination is thorough and you are convinced that everything they have told to is the only way that you can be saved. But Scripture tells us otherwise.
I can talk to you all day long, and until the Holy Spirit pierces your heart, my words are useless. I have sent you Scriptures which directly refute your thoughts about saints and their abilities, and you come back with church dogma. That will send you straight to hell, yes. That is how Satan works. He is a deceiver and everything that he is able to do to convince you to stay within your error is his purpose.
They are dead, Liz! Veneration or whatever you wish to call it will do you no good, and you certainly cannot show me where Jesus instructs us that there is somebody that can take messages for Him! Please take the time to read these Scripture verses. You don't have to listen to me "interpret" them! The Holy Spirit will do that if you let Him in...
John 4: ... 6 Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Hebrews 4: 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we areyet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach Gods throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. ...
Hebrews 10: 19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
1 Timothy 2: 1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people.
You dont give the RCC nearly enough credit. Many of its beliefs and rituals go back to the days of Nimrod. The hats worn by Catholic priests go back to the priests of Dagon. My goodness, give the RCC credit where credit is due.
Excellent points, Cynical Bear! Pagan beliefs and rituals go back to just after the Fall, no doubt, and Satan has never slept.
Thin skinned??? Who's the one constantly whining to the Moderator over triviality???
Here's a claim found in the article (from a [Roman] Catholic responder) that doesn't stand up to scrutiny;
Comparing translations side by side can find the opposite in the Challoner Douay bibles in particular. That translation is often left as the odd man out, even in comparison to NAB (not to be confused with NASB), with the most recent NAB agreeing more with versions which the RC complainer is whining about(?) than the [Challoner] Douay Rheims.
If one is to look for a bible with words "changed" to support certain aspects of theology, that one (DR) is the more guilty...regardless if *some* error was inherited from Latin Vulgate, thus that lineage being something of a mitigating factor. The Vulgate was very good Latin translation of it's day...but as with many or most translations, not without certain "issues".
The complaint (with some assertion on the side) highlighted in brown [above] is yet another on of the type which are more applicable to Roman Catholicism, than to legitimate critics of certain aspects of RCC theology. (not that many others cannot also be subjected to similar scrutiny and criticisms, of course)
The Catholic respondent spoke about "words changed to justify Protestant beliefs" but fails to give a single example.
One the other hand, examples for the contrary are not too hard to find (but beware! those idiosyncrasies are protected by alligators, i tell 'ya)
But here we go...with a little help from google, and hope for some "back up" assistance from the 'boys...
The [Challoner] Douay Rhiems, found side-by-side with 4 other translations here, for Genesis 3:15, says;
I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.bold added for emphasis.
A page accessible from official RCC source http://usccb.org/bible/genesis/3 has;
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; They will strike at your head, while you strike at their heel.But Roman Catholics have the gall to accuse Protestants of changing scripture to fit their theology? Well lookee here;
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel."Now I must admit that I do not know (for was unable to determine) which of the last two above versions of NAB Gen 3:15 is the most recent, but they do vary, and vary also from the Douay which was once much approved for use (though perhaps not for liturgical purposes until Vatican II?).
At a glance, what appears but a progression towards agreeing with other textual translations, bringing the "RC" flavored scripture more into conformity to those eevil boll weevil "Protestant" bibles? It's to laugh. The scholarship outside of the RCC was evidently too powerful to resist, in regards to Gen 3:15.
It took them long enough, didn't it?
Ok --time out. The more original Vulgate versions are said to have said "he" and his, not she and hers. The mistake has been attributed to copy error, and since the words are closely similar, that could be a reason. But to hold onto that "copy mistake" for centuries, even applying that subtle theological difference (while citing the more accurate one, more directly) in Papal Bull in matters of "doctrine and faith"--- inspires less than full trust, but instead comes across as slippery. I realize that many Roman Catholics fully accept the explanations given there...but many of the Orthodox scratch their heads in wonderment. There was no "Immaculate Conception" (not to be confused with virgin birth) attested to by Christ and the Apostles. The RCC as much says that it was "revealed" to them. Here da' "bull".
It condemns all whom dare disagree with it.
Hence, if anyone shall dare -- which God forbid! -- to think otherwise than as has been defined by us, let him know and understand that he is condemned by his own judgment; that he has suffered shipwreck in the faith; that he has separated from the unity of the Church; and that, furthermore, by his own action he incurs the penalties established by law if he should are to express in words or writing or by any other outward means the errors he think in his heart.The Hebrew scripture has or uses no "they" or "theirs" or anything that would translate into those words in Gen 3:15. Neither does the Hebrew use "her" instead of "him". Yet the "Ineffabilis Deus" (regarding the Immaculate Conception) has Mary personally
Are all the Orthodox, who themselves have long bought into the perpetual virginity of Mary idea (which idea itself is not one whit theologically necessary -- other than in regards to what has "developed" within churches) but point at Immaculate Conception as unnecessary theological novelty, to be now considered "shipwreck" in the faith"?
The RCC sings siren song of unity under Christ, while insisting unity be only achievable by full submission to all which they themselves choose to say --- about God. We hear some version of that on these pages EVERY STINKING DAY, but some here have the temerity to say "we never pick on you guys" sob-sob, sniff, sniffle...
The history of the Latin church, leaves me less than trusting that the Lord fully desired for that particular outfit to be in command over all others -- with those whom dissent over various aspects of their theology cast out not just from fellowship or communion with them -- but said (by the RCC) to be in opposition to God himself. Well gee thanks, guys. My heart just bleeds for all the torment and "bashing" the RCC must endure (while it bashes everyone for miles around in every direction just by it's very existence, having stacks of anathema and past hurled condemnations of outsiders, still "legally" in effect!).
There is more...in the past Douay bibles used "priest" for what the present day NAB translates as "presbyter" with that word translating better into modern English as "elder". Latin presbyter represents Greek presbyteros, the regular Latin word for "priest" being sacerdos, corresponding to Greek hiereus.
Since there are usages of hiereus (or nearest equivalent, acknowledging some slight changes or evolution of Greek language, spellings, etc., which here I use English equivalent) in the NT, which translate into English (of many bibles) precisely as "priest", then what IS up with forcing translation of presbyteros to "priest"? The words are not exactly synonymous, for there is indeed another word for priest. The American RC bishops get to get away with it --- since the word "presbyteros" itself is basically in the Greek texts. Yet they are leaving it all by it's lonesome untranslated, when again, the Douay reached for "priest". Nobody, not even the American RC bishops are continuing on with that usage, as applied...
Is the word "elder" which has long been used for presbyter, and is still being used by the most modern and faithfully accurate translations, generally across the board that much in error? Could ALL those translators be THAT much in unanimous error? Presently, the American RC bishops are providing in the NAB the word "presbyter" (not priest as in the DR) in those areas...which leaves less than translated Latinized Greek terminology in place at that one juncture, in apparent effort to bolster and maintain their own singular claims to sacerdotalism.
These sort of things have been debated for centuries. But now...I'm supposed to feel sorry for poor whittle caf-o-licks for their feelings getting hurt for my own self and many others being able to see THRU the "bull" and daring point out to one and all that RCC "promotional materials" and various claims, don't exactly line up with historical facts and/or scripture either?
Facts are facts.
The Catholic Church has been converting pagan religions for the last 2,000 years. That was commanded by Christ. The divine command of the Lord Jesus Christ to: “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19).
