Eventually, and I think very soon, Francis will clarify his statements and they will prove completely consistent with Catholic teaching and not a "wonderful, hopeful change."
For the first time in their unthinking lives these same people, who could barely contain their enthusiasm only yesterday, are going to have to use reason to defend their positions, positions they "felt" their way to rather than having arrived at them by reason.
I suspect almost all will go away sad like the wealthy young man who wouldn't sell all his possessions to follow Christ.
*Okay, that's probably not the right term but I can't think of a feint that suckers the opponent into thinking he's got he's got his opposition on the ropes only to have the tables turned on him.
