Jesus did not tell Peter “you are the rock upon which I will build my Church” only to have that church become insular.
It has been one of my major problems with the Catholic Church. Pope Francis seems intent on fixing it.

He did say, “And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. “
Jesus is the rock! The chief cornerstone. Not Peter.
