The modern world has reduced this sexual union to bodily satisfaction, and in so doing, it has separated body and soul. We already have a word for the permanent separation of body and soulthat is death. By reducing sex to the level of the bodythat is, the animal levelwe have created a culture of death. Catholic ping!

So true and so important.
Permit me to use this as a pretext to pass along a good quote from my favorite philosophical giantess, Elizabeth Anscombe:
![](http://mail.centurylink.net/service/home/~/?id=32383&part=2&auth=co&disp=i)
Those who try to make room for sex as mere casual enjoyment
pay the penalty:
they become shallow.
At any rate the talk that reflects and commends this attitude
is always shallow.
They dishonour their own bodies;
holding cheap what is naturally connected
with the origination of human life."
