If you try to replace worship of God with symbols and ceremonies, you deserve a good revolution. Although Cromwell proved that power corrupts, absolutely it corrupts.
This is surely an exaggeration given that God Himself asked for “symbols” in his House —the Tabernacle, as a sign that he was among his people. He doesn't need such things but we do need the assurance.
