MOSCOW, July 25 (RIA Novosti) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday praised the role of Orthodox Christianity in the countrys history and congratulated the heads of the worlds Orthodox churches on the 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of Kievan Rus, a medieval state comprising parts of modern-day Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
The adoption of Christianity became a turning point in the fate of our fatherland, made it an inseparable part of the Christian civilization and helped it turn into one of the largest world powers, Putin said in a message addressed to participants of a commemorative celebration on Red Square, the Kremlin reported.
It is Orthodoxy that gave Russia a powerful impetus for the development and rise of culture and education, the message says.

Putin has said kinder things about Christianity than O has
I never thought I’d see the day the leader of Russia made more sense than the leader of the U.S.
I’m telling you we are in the evil parallel universe. Where America spies on it’s own citizens and Russia lectures us on freedom.
I blame the CERN large hydron collider. They messed with physics they didn’t understand and threw us into a parallel universe.
I prefer this explanation.
The Leonine Prayers are a set of prayers that from 1884 to early 1965 were prescribed by the Popes for recitation after Low Mass. They are still sometimes used at celebrations of the Tridentine Mass today.
The prayers did not form part of the Mass itself, but were prescribed for specific intentions. The original intention was the defence of the temporal sovereignty of the Holy See. After this problem was settled with the Lateran Treaty of 1929, Pope Pius XI ordered that the prayers should be said for the restoration to the people of Russia of tranquillity and freedom to profess the Catholic faith. This gave rise to the unofficial and inaccurate use of the name “Prayers for the Conversion of Russia” for the prayers, which were also known, less inaccurately, as “Prayers after Mass”. [1][2]

No doubt about that.
obamar had his annual muslim event at the White House this week showing observance to ramadan. He shows far greater respect for islam than he does Christianity.
yup...wonder why?/s
putin likes to spit in obamas face and he is increasing lately its probably the reason barry o cancelled their fall summit
Hey, perhaps a few US Military “leaders” will get the memo from Putin.
Oh, I forgot, they are squashing Christians and replacing them with “gyas” and atheists.

That’s because,.. He ARE one! :-)
Yes, Nikita Khrushchev must have been “on to something” to paraphrase JFK. Now Obama hails Ho Chi Minh as akin to an American “founding father.” The “low information” American people though have never heard of Khrushchev or Ho Chi Minh.
Although I have some minute doctrinal issues with Orthodoxy, I absolutely LOVE the Divine Liturgy, The Icons, the Music, The Incense, even the Vestments.
I grew up in a Neighborhood with Greek, Syrian, Ukrainian, and Russian Orthodox Churches, and would stand for hours holding a lit candle for the Easter Services, and took many pictures of the Interiors for which I produced a multi-Media program as a college Project.
The Orthodox and Coptic Churches are now on the Front Lines in the worldwide persecution of Christians in Muslim Lands. I have read that more Christians are being slaughtered in those countries than in the days of Nero and Diocletian.
Remember, though, the Russian Church has survived 80 years of Communism, most of those years under Stalin. Now it is coming back stronger than ever.
There is hope for all of us.
Okay, that could explain Russia.
But who the heck prayed for America to sink into the pit?
I was always impressed with the Russian Orthodox wedding scenes in the movie "The Deerhunter",
My Dad , a Wedding Photographer, did a Greek Wedding, where the Bride fainted from exhaustion and was unconscious for a large part of the ceremony. She revived towards the end in time for the rings and the crowns.
Notice, I didn't say American.
I just got back from Europe....and I always made it a point to say that I was a “Texan”, and that we are from “Texas.”
It’s weird how Putin has almost become a poster boy for American conservatives.
