The thing that baffled me the first time I attended a Catholic church as a youth, was, I couldn’t figure out how they conducted services without bibles.

Not surprising that such an astute scholar of Scripture as yourself failed to recognize the Mass from Scripture particularly the Apocalypse of St. John not to mention the readings from the Old Testament, the Psalms, the New Testament and one of the four Gospels. Were you busy sleeping?

Too bad your limited vocabulary didn't allow you too comprehend the contents of the Missal. In the ensuing time you haven't evolved one iota.

As you sit down in the pew, look directly ahead of yourself at the back of the pew in front of you. The book you see there, behind every seat in the pew, is the Bible. Have a great day.

Neither can I figure out how they could do it, since it’s actually always been a matter of canon law that you need the bible present for the liturgy.

However, the actual text of the mass, although (unlike most Protestant sects) is derived nearly entirely from the mass, with obvious exceptions (such as the Littany of the Saints). It is this text which appears in the missalettes, complete with the bible passages selected for each day’s readings.
