“What rot. But she believed it. Or at least, she wanted US to believe it.”
Or maybe she was trying to convince herself to believe it.
Yes, RF, surely she was trying to fool herself as well.
It’s amazing that she sent this pages-long form letter to all of her friends which said, basically, nothing. Nothing but this self-affirmation crap. And why did she send it to us?? If she hadn’t, we’d never have known about the abortion. It would have been her safe silent secret forever.
I suspect she fell into the hands of some damned (I mean damned) “counselor” who filled her with this poison about your right to choose your own right and wrong, and your right to affirm this in public because it pertains to your autonomy, which you have a right to be proud of, and blah-blah-blah.
It’s like she got it out of a Women’s Inner Journey Workbook. One, decide to get the abortion. Two, start journaling our inner/outer experience. Three, stay in a nice resort for a week, because you deserve it. Four, (have a couple drinks and) say goodbye to your baby’s spirit, which you have mercifully released from this physical plane. Five, strengthen your self-affirmation by writing to all your friends. You may give them the moral maturity and solidarity to do the same!
(A parody of the Holistic Women’s Wellness schtick, if you’ve never really encountered it.)
