What would Jesus drive?

Pope Francis said on Saturday it pained him to see priests driving flashy cars, and told them to pick something more "humble".

As part of his drive to make the Catholic Church more austere and focus on the poor, Francis told young and trainee priests and nuns from around the world that having the latest smartphone or fashion accessory was not the route to happiness.

"It hurts me when I see a priest or a nun with the latest model car, you can't do this," he said.

"A car is necessary to do a lot of work, but please, choose a more humble one. If you like the fancy one, just think about how many children are dying of hunger in the world," he said.

Yes, I gathered that. One could speculate that Joseph was a business owner with the ability to create income just like Andrew, Peter, James, and John. But someone of wealth would have had a servant or steward reserve in advance a room at that inn. Obviously, this was not the case.

which of these thousands of copies are you equating with the “original manuscript”?...If the Bible is THE explicit Word of God, ( I’m not being facetious here) who threw it away? I am NOT being antagonist here, please.

Who says it was thrown away? The vast majority of all documents from that period have not survived the test of time. I can see someone making a very good argument that God didn't want the original article to survive because he knew people would start worshiping it as a relic just as happened with Moses' bronze serpent.

You obviously don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Scripture has been verified historically (as if it needed it) and discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls demonstrated the accuracy of those who copied Scripture to the older editions.

Who said anyone threw the Bible away?

And if there are indeed "thousands" of copies, why is that a problem?

Your questions don't even make any sense.

Dead Sea Scrolls demonstrated the accuracy of those who copied Scripture to the older editions....So the Dead Sea scrolls were not copies of...something? They are still interpreting them to this day!

I don't mean for my question about the dating of the books of the NT to be a challenge --- not at all. I have never entered ino any of the controversies on that question. I just wanted to know if you have a source online, because I wanted to look into it in order to supplement my own resources as a very small-time teacher, myself.

I always thought Mark came first in terms of the 4 evangelists, and that much (all?) of Paul came before any of the written Gospels, but I am just comparing notes.

Any reference you could give me would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Class warfare in the church?"

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,And raised up the lowly,He has filled the poor with good things, And sent the rich away empty-handed.""

They'll have to get rid of Mary then. Might want to cut out the whole Gospel of Luke, just be sure.

------

Context is everything. Socialists abuse biblical texts to advance Socialism. Luke is referencing the heart of man not the class of man. Luke 1:51 Mary was chosen because she was humble in spirit not because she was poor. It really annoys when leftists turn the bible into a political ideology which condemns the getting of wealth when God is concerned with humanities heart.

The Prophets of Israel are chock-full of judgments and dictums about "the rich" and "the poor." Much of this carries over quite colorfully into the language of the NT.

I agree with you fully, that they're not talking about class warfare. But they do show a skepticism about wealth and the wealthy that's at many points quite severe, if you bare yourself to the full impact of the words.

I have an ongoing argument with the Christian Left. Jose Porfirio Miranda I ain't. But they're not making up those disturbing chapters and verses about the moral peril of wealth.

I’ve had similar arguements with the Christian left.

The prophets tho don’t condemn the rich they condemn loving wealth above God. Its quite easy to take a verse and not look at prior verses. Unfortunately that is what many Christian leftists do. And in doing so they show pride, greed and coveting. I find that amusing.

Jesus would drive what all the twelve disciples drove. It’s in the Bible after all. It says the disciples “came in on their own Accord”

My b-i-l, an RC priest for the last 20-some years, has never purchased a car; he uses what is given to him. I think that’s what Jesus would have done too...
