I still can’t decide whether my fear was caused by demonic power attached to the book, or by the stories themselves.

I understand being frightening or disturbed by reading about certain things, but do you believe that demonic power can actually be "caught" or "brought forth" by reading a book about the topic? I don't ask this in a sarcastic sense; I really want your opinion of the concept. Because if so, I can only wonder as to the purpose of the authors who write such books.

Learning about something is never bad. Dwelling on it, especially this particular subject, is a bad idea. I know enough about it (having been rather unwise in my youth) to know I don’ want to know any more. I can’t think of any other subject I would say that about.

Thanks. I appreciate that.

Demons can be attached to physical things, as in demonically infested homes, objects, such as ouija boards, and people (demonic oppression and possession). The exact mechanism of attachment is mysterious.

Additionally, the evil angels are very intelligent, and like the devil, “prowl around like a lion, looking for someone to devour.” They can’t read minds, but they can observe us, and if they observe behavior which could indicate interest in the occult, it is reasonable to assume that they would see it as an opportunity to attack.

The latter may have been the case in my reading of Martin’s book. But I don’t ascribe malice to Martin.

Caught or brought forth?

You’re walking a fence between the Christian life and witchcraft.

Every believer has the authority through faith in Christ to bind or loose those fallen ones. It is important to first remain in fellowship with God through faith in Christ in all things. We are to pray continuously, never ceasing. If that sounds strange, it’s no more strange than walking and chewing bubble gum at the same time, nor to breathe continuously.

A good study book is The Invisible War, by Donald Grey Barnhouse, Zondervon Press 1965. I believe Chip Ingram has also recently published a book by the same title.

Do demons, aka fallen angels exist. Yes. I wouldn’t wish them on anybody. They are very real. No body, but they can cause physical and mental harm.

If troubled by them, first, return to God theough faith in Christ,...just place faith in Him and Christ has authority over them, and let God handle the situation.

I've read up to post 90, and came back here to reply.

The short answer to your question is yes indeed, powers can be unleashed by “reading” about esoteric spiritual matters.

The subject is fascinating, and can lead you into discoveries of intense and surprising spiritual powers that are at work in the physical world.

The cost to your physical mental health and your spiritual soul in toying with the knowledge potentially gained as an interested amateur, can be extremely high.

You will probably do it anyway, since you have already started down this path.
I also continued on that path. Millions have already done so, and many of them have warned others against it, but few usually listen to them, no matter how clearly or how vaguely they describe the danger.
Some others of them intentionally set out to lure others ever deeper into the subject. Misery does love company.

Are you very certain your time, personal research skills, and curiosity wouldn't be better used in seeking a cure for cancer, a better alternate power or food source, or solving a math problem? No?

Well, at least after your journey, you will have firmly picked a side in the battle of good versus evil.
And in the final spiritual battle, all who will wage it will know which side we each openly picked to do battle for.
