LDS seminary teacher charged with burglary, theft of prescription drugs

ROOSEVELT — A man responsible for teaching religious education classes to LDS high school students is facing criminal charges after investigators say he burglarized a home on a Sunday afternoon to steal prescription painkillers.

Brian Dean Thacker was charged Wednesday in 8th District Court with burglary, a second-degree felony, theft, a class B misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor.

On May 26, Thacker entered a home about 2 p.m. and took Lortab from a medicine cabinet, according to Duchesne County sheriff's detective Dela Rowley.

A woman was upstairs in the home at the time and heard Thacker moving around downstairs, Rowley said. She waited until Thacker left and then looked out the window and recognized him, the detective said.

Thacker, 42, was interviewed after the incident was reported to the sheriff's office. He corroborated the woman's account of what happened and admitted to taking Lortab from the home, Rowley said.

Thacker served as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seminary teacher for Union High School during the 2012-13 academic year. Prior to that, he was the seminary teacher for LDS students at Altamont High School.

"The church expects the highest level of conduct from its seminary teachers," LDS Church spokeswoman Ruth Todd said. "Brian Thacker is on administrative leave."

So far investigators do not believe Thacker was using prescription painkillers while teaching seminary classes or soliciting medication from his students, Rowley said.

Thacker has entered an inpatient drug treatment program. His first court appearance is set for June 27.

if you knew about mormonism you would know...

I know enough about my Christian faith to know they are Christian as well.

Do you now intend to demean and weaken my faith?

What's wrong? Tell us what you think of each statement; after all, you know enough about my Christian faith to know they are Christian as well. And you don't know what they believe? It's time to put up and show some credibility or zip it with your non answer standard replies.

Changing the subject shows a lack of credibility. Why when nana posts about the Blood of Jesus - do you tell us what you watched on liberal TV?

Sincerity has nothing to do with the post.
The person claims to be mormon then says he believes something that mormonism does not teach, I was simply pointing that out..

mormonism is not Christianity.
As Christians we are to call out false prophets and false teachings.
For you to keep repeating that mormonism is Christianity, means sever things one of which is that you know nothing of mormonism and you may not understand the above.
If what I say demeans your “faith” then there are other issues in your life.

I must, respectfully, disagree. Sincerity is the point of the post.

“It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men. If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,” ( Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670)

”That exaltation which the saints of all ages have so devoutly sought is godhood itself” (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321)

“What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world”
- Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 270

mormonism is not Christianity.

Governor Boggs on October 27, 1838 was this:

Headquarters of the Militia,
City of Jefferson, Oct. 27, 1838.

Gen. John B. Clark:

Sir:–Since the order of this morning to you, directing you to cause four hundred mounted men to be raised within your Division, I have received by Amos Rees, Esq. of Ray county, and Wiley C. Williams, Esq. one of my aids, information of the most appalling character, which entirely changes the face of things, and places the Mormons in the attitude of an open and avowed defiance of the laws, and of having made war upon the people of this State. Your orders are, therefore, to hasten your operations with all possible speed. The Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the state if necessary for the public peace–their outrages are beyond all description. If you can increase your force, you are authorized to do so to any extent you may consider necessary. I have just issued orders to Maj. Gen. Willock, of Marion county, to raise five hundred men, and to march them to the northern part of Daviess, and there unite with Gen Doniphan, of Clay, who has been ordered with five hundred men to proceed to the same point for the purpose of intercepting the retreat of the Mormons to the north. They have been directed to communicate with you by express, you can also communicate with them if you find it necessary. Instead therefore of proceeding as at first directed to reinstate the citizens of Daviess in their homes, you will proceed immediately to Richmond and then operate against the Mormons. Brig. Gen. Parks, of Ray, has been ordered to have four hundred of his Brigade in readiness to join you at Richmond. The whole force will be placed under your command.

I am very respectfully,
your ob’t serv’t,
L. W. Boggs, Commander-in-Chief

The entire letter.
Do you know why it was written?

Do you know why it was written?

I believe it was in response to a great evil committed by a group of Mormons.

Also, this “extermination order” resulted in the deaths of at least 60 Mormons, and the rapes of dozens of Mormon women and girls. Many others died from exposure as they were forced to evacuate the state.

This order was not repealed until 1976.....136 years later.

“extermination” Does not mean today what it meant then.
Many laws and orders exists today that mean nothing, probably thousands.
Are you mormon?
