And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class! We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all! And we all have a duty to do good. If we, each doing our own part, if we do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: we need that so much. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.” Jesus paid the penalty for all sin but redemption is not automatically granted. Only those who receive Him are children of God.
John 1:12-13 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
Not sure why that was posted to me, but I happen to agree with you. The Pope seems to be saying something contrary to Catholic teaching. Catholic teaching has always held that we are made children of God through Baptism (and obviously atheists have not been baptized). I honestly don’t know what to think about this homily. I certainly have questions, but not about the Catholic Faith.
