I think it really has most to do with the age of the girls. At that age, 13 or so, they are more mature than the boys and thus are more active in everything. They do it in pairs and packs, so like girls (and women).
I do pray for our priests. They remind me of the little Dutch boy putting his finger on the dike...or of the thin blue line.
WHAT would we do without these wonderful priests? WHERE would we be? Like Jesus said--sheep without a shepard.

For me, this should never have been an issue.
If women cannot be priests, then girls should not be altar servers. Why? Because as having been an altar boy for 7 years, it is as clear to me now as it was then that altar boys are an excellent source of vocations to the priesthood.
Our parish has more girls than boys as altar servers. Every one of those girls, no matter how dedicated, is filling a position that should have been filled by a boy who may in later years be attracted to the priesthood as a result of his service as an altar boy.
