Dave Hunt, an apologist, best-selling author, speaker and radio commentator, died April 5 with his wife, Ruth, at his side. He was 87.
Noted for his research on cults, the occult and New Age doctrines, which began creeping into the church during the 1980s, Hunt was renowned for his controversial 1985 best-seller, The Seduction of Christianity (Harvest House Publishers), which he co-authored with T.A. McMahon.
A prolific author of more than 40 books with at least 4 million copies sold, many translated into 50 languages, Hunt's other titles include Yoga and the Body of Christ; A Woman Rides the Beast; and Debating Calvinism: Five Points, Two Views. Hunt founded The Berean Call, an apologetics ministry, in 1992.
He also wrote two novels: The Mind Invaders (formerly The Archon Conspiracy) and Sanctuary of the Chosen. Additionally, Hunt wrote a children's book, The Money Tree, with his daughter Karen. His videos include Israel, Islam & Armageddon and A Woman Rides the Beast. Hunt also hosted two radio program, Search the Scriptures Daily and According to God's Word.
"Dave's bold yet loving approach to discern and then deliver the truth is evident in everything he did," The Berean Call website said. "His love for Jesus, for Israel and for people in general was obvious to all. His enthusiasm for the truth, along with his anger over the sin and wickedness that he knew was robbing people of what God wanted for them, flamed his desire to share the Lord with anyone with whom he had contact."
Hunt is survived by his wife of 63 years. A private burial service was held, and Hunt will remembered during the summer Bible conference of The Berean Call Aug. 23-24 in Bend, Ore.
But doesn't that mean that every Catholic is also an anti-Protestant bigot?
Until now, I had not realized that "every Protestant" published books arguing that the Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon. (That the great thing about FR; I learn something new here everyday.) I must remember to ask my Protestant co-workers tomorrow if I can read their books on the topic.
Protestantism, by its very nature, is restorationist. It believes that historical chrstianity is a "great apostasy" and that "true chrstianity" was "restored" at whatever date their various churches were founded. "Whore of Babylon" is a way of expressing this opposition to the historical churches. What are they supposed to do? Say "there's nothing wrong with historical chrstianity but let's start a brand new church for no reason whatsoever?"
Catholics likewise believe that Protestants are heretics, rebels, ignorant of history, etc. I notice this is never considered "bigotry," however.
FR Catholics need to stop playing "oppressed left wing urban minority" by constantly shouting "bigot!"
“And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.” does not mean that there needed to be a particular old testament prophesy written down — to assert that it does is to call the Holy Spirit a dead thing that cannot bring a person revelation (HS being divine makes tat a divine revelation), this is obviously in error as the HS’s role to reveal the truth of Christ (draw in the unsaved; John 16:13-14) would be unachievable.
what I find more offensive is you pagans celebrating someone’s death
and then complaining that we call you on it
THAT is offensive
You hadn’t even had the decency to just walk on by and let it go, you had to spew your protestant hate mongering, and now whine that we hand it back?
You are no different than Muslims
I didn’t realize we were still in the middle-age mindset between catholics and protestants...somebody has to be wrong, now, just as they were then.....some things don’t appear to ever change....and we think only the Muslims live in the past!
What drew me to Dave hunt was his teachings on apostasy in the Church in general, the new age movement, the phony miracles, the rock music influence, and I wasn’t even saved when I started reading his books :)
I was seeking, and it had been about 6 years since I had read LATE GREAT PLANET EARTH, and I knew Hal Lindsey taught how the Bible spoke of a coming apostasy, so I went and found something new and found Dave hunt
I was stunned, for I was in a 12 step cult then, and read what he had to say about them, and he was so right, the phony religious aspect of the 12 step groups and I had read my Bible all that time seeing how different what God said compared to the 12 step groups
It was because someone wrote those things that I was convicted and chose to believe what God said, not what man said, and I fell on my knees and got saved around October 1988
All the catholic bigotry expressed here against Hunt, it is shameful. When people like myself used to engage in these debates, we always used Scripture to back up what we said, but to just dive in and insult people...Bible believers never did that here, but others sure do
and this thread is proving that again.
Interesting is the same insults and arguements continue....although there have been times when lively debate has indeed happened and all learned from it I think...at least I remember those times.
I think some of the people who could debate well and keep the topic going don’t post as they once did, or aren’t here anymore. I just know that in their debates I learned a great deal.
Wow!....looks like the “usual” suspects follow with the usual snarky remarks as well.
Read what Simeon said ...
It is rather a trivial task to produce the OT passages he is obviously referring to ...
Do some work for yourself ... God may grant you repentance if you seek Him diligently.
STOP mentioning Chick on the Religion Forum. The subject is banned.
Hunt should be also.
Holy simplicity(!) such a lovely non sequitur you’ve got there. It is, truly a paper tiger.
