Dave Hunt, an apologist, best-selling author, speaker and radio commentator, died April 5 with his wife, Ruth, at his side. He was 87.
Noted for his research on cults, the occult and New Age doctrines, which began creeping into the church during the 1980s, Hunt was renowned for his controversial 1985 best-seller, The Seduction of Christianity (Harvest House Publishers), which he co-authored with T.A. McMahon.
A prolific author of more than 40 books with at least 4 million copies sold, many translated into 50 languages, Hunt's other titles include Yoga and the Body of Christ; A Woman Rides the Beast; and Debating Calvinism: Five Points, Two Views. Hunt founded The Berean Call, an apologetics ministry, in 1992.
He also wrote two novels: The Mind Invaders (formerly The Archon Conspiracy) and Sanctuary of the Chosen. Additionally, Hunt wrote a children's book, The Money Tree, with his daughter Karen. His videos include Israel, Islam & Armageddon and A Woman Rides the Beast. Hunt also hosted two radio program, Search the Scriptures Daily and According to God's Word.
"Dave's bold yet loving approach to discern and then deliver the truth is evident in everything he did," The Berean Call website said. "His love for Jesus, for Israel and for people in general was obvious to all. His enthusiasm for the truth, along with his anger over the sin and wickedness that he knew was robbing people of what God wanted for them, flamed his desire to share the Lord with anyone with whom he had contact."
Hunt is survived by his wife of 63 years. A private burial service was held, and Hunt will remembered during the summer Bible conference of The Berean Call Aug. 23-24 in Bend, Ore.
If Fr. Cougin died last month and Catholics here posted multiple threads praising him, I’m sure the targets of his bigotry would remain silent too, right?
Maybe if Bishop Williamson passes away soon we’ll get to test that hypothesis.
I suspect an honest assessment would find the late Mr. Hunt not even in the same league as Father Coughlin as far as bigotry real or imagined.
Immediate? I was silent on several prior threads about Hunt immediately after his passing. I even prayed his time in purgatory would be short. But I thought enough time had passed to simply post a link. And given the FReeper who originally posted this thread and their notorious anti-Catholic history here I thought this thread was the appropriate one for said link.
That is your opinion and in this FRee country you are certainly entitled to your opinion, no matter how implausible it might be.
“he is going to dearly lament many of the things he said against the Church Christ founded and built.”
Which one was that? The one in Rome, Antioch or Alexandria? According to “Pope” Gregory the First, all three possessed the Throne of Peter, and therefore Rome has no continuous theology of the primacy of its Bishop.
Whereas there were many apostles, yet for the principality itself, one only see of the apostles prevailed, in authority, which is of one, but in three places. For he elevated the see in which he condescended to rest, and to finish his present life. He decorated the see, to which he sent his disciple the evangelist, and he established the see, in which, although he intended to leave it, he sat for seven years. Since there fore the see is of one and is one, over which three bishops preside by divine authority, whatsoever good I hear of you, I ascribe to myself. And if you hear any good of me, number it among your merits, be- cause we are all one in him who says, that all should be one, as thou, O Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they may be one in us. To Eulogius, Bishop of Alexandria Book VII, Epistle XL
Theodoret references the same belief when he places the throne of Peter under the Bishop of Antioch:
Dioscorus, however, refuses to abide by these decisions; he is turning the See of the blessed Mark upside down; and these things he does though he perfectly well knows that the Antiochene (of Antioch) metropolis possesses the throne of the great Peter, who was teacher of the blessed Mark, and first and coryphæus (head of the choir) of the chorus of the apostles. Theodoret - Letter LXXXVI - To Flavianus, Bishop of Constantinople.
I’ll have to conclude that anyone drawn by the Father to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is part of the true church established by Christ.
The FR religion forum has quite honesty seemed beset with very verbose sedevacantists for going on a few years now, so I won’t be anticipating much in the way of condemnation of Williamson upon his passing. It took prodding to get any for Coughlin.
Why hijack the thread & make it about a dead priest?? As a post above points out, you seem not bothered at all about Hunt’s anti-Catholic vitrol. That says something.
Provide examples of “anti-Catholic vitriol” made by the late Mr. Hunt, please.
Rest in peace Mr. Hunt.
And please tell us, how one enters heaven? Please use scripture. Did he say anything untrue about Catholic church teachings? What specifically do you disagree with? He told truth because love propelled him. Many people have been led astray, one doesn’t gain entrance in the kingdom because of sacraments. By faith we are counted righteous, like Noah, Abraham and many others.
Not just Catholic teaching, but the Bible itself.
Did he deny Transubstantiation, or not? Did he deny the Primacy of Peter, or not. Did he erroneously equate "Word of God" with "Bible" or not.....
:D
Hoss
So, theological differences are causing erstwhile conservative Catholics on FR to invoke the damning, Orwellian political language of diversity in claiming “anti-Cathilic bigotry?”
Mr. Hunt awaits his glorified body. As all of us in the body of Christ do.
I remember him having some sort of 'to-do' with Robert Schuller over his book "seduction of christianity".
Lets see now. If Christians disagree with the claims of the Papacy, and refuse to subjugate themselves to the so called “throne of Peter,” reject rosary bead prayers to Mary, purgatory, indulgences, the celibacy of the ministry, and a thousand other unbiblical doctrines of the Papacy, they are anti-Catholic bigots? I see.
In Dave Hunt’s case, he did more than just disagree, of course, he exposed these kind of things. This makes him an especial bad boy in the eyes of Rome.
Speaking of seduction (Dave Hunt’s book, “The Seduction of Christianity”), brings to mind the religion forum here , we are constantly flooded with pro RCC threads. Only the weak minded, however, only those who don’t know their Bibles, get seduced by it.
Excuse me?
You hoist Fr. C up like Emmanuel Goldstein, and expect charges of "Orwellianism" to be taken seriously?
Please....
No, rejecting the organic nature of the Church Christ founded, and insisting on a self-styled, yet Islam-like adherence to ones own interpretation of Holy Writ is Anti-Catholic bigotry.
“Did he deny Transubstantiation, or not? Did he deny the Primacy of Peter,”
“Pope” Gregory the First did. Is he an anti-Catholic bigot? Here is Gregory stating that the Bishops of Rope, Antioch and Alexandria possessed the Throne of Peter, and therefore Rome has no continuous theology of the primacy of its Bishop.

“Did he erroneously equate “Word of God” with “Bible” or not.....”
What blasphemy is this?
2Ti_3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Either the Bible is the word of God, or you deny the entirety of the Bible.
This is why the Catholics make such poor allies on any matter of religion. They undermine the scriptures every chance they get.
