Had it not been for these councils, we might have been without a Trinity even unto this day. When we take into consideration the fact that a belief in the Trinity is absolutely essential to salvation, how unfortunate it was for the world that this doctrine was not established until the year 1274. Do you folks really believe what Mr. Ingersoll says in this quote ?

It depends on whether you think that the doctrine of the Trinity is something upon which people of good faith can disagree, or not.

If the latter, then I do agree with Ingersoll.

I took it as an ironic and humorous post on the absurdity of using a doctrine developed over hundreds of years as a criteria for salvation.
