Genuflection is not a “non-negotiable.” (The only meaning that could carry is that genuflecting is necessary for validity.) That is preposterous. A priest may, if necessary, celebrate Mass seated. There is no physical act during the Mass that is “non-negotiable” other than the Epicletic Gesture.

Well, I'm not a Catholic scholar, so I'm not qualified to have an opinion regarding the technical importance of genuflecting one way or another. I do, however, think that the Pope is the Catholic of Catholics, and is therefore our earthly role model. So, while your average parishioner may take shortcuts here and there for convenience or out of apathy, the Pope should do everything in his power to show the most reverence possible, which, to my mind, means that if there is a way he can genuflect, he should, whether the Mass is invalid without it or not, just to demonstrate the highest standard of reverence to the rest of the flock.
However, as I admit ignorance of the technical aspects of this stuff, you might be better off having this discussion with Ann, herself. She appears to be quite receptive to communications from readers:
