Cardinal Wuerl, as abp of Washington DC does not believe in refusing Communion to abortion promoters.

.

do any of the cardinals present in Rome have authority over Biden or Pelosi's home bishop and therefore have the authority to instruct them not to present themselves for communion?

Nobody will say a word.

Thanks for your reply. I’m aware of Wuerl’s stance. I specifically want to know if he has AUTHORITY based on the fact that they are representing an entity in his diocese. Cardinal Burke has spoken about this and I have read his statement about the home diocesan bishops having the “duty” to handle proabort politicians. What I specifically want to know is whether any of the cardinals in Rome have AUTHORITY to instruct the openly proabort politicians in the delegation (i.e. outside their home dioceses) not to present for communion at this Mass (not whether they have the willingness to use such authority). Peace be with you.

Cardinal Wuerl was upbraided by the Archbishop of Saint Louis, Cdl. Burke. Cdl. Wuerl basically told him to mind his own business. Pope Benedict XVI responded by making Cdl. Burke the head of what is essentially the Catholic Supreme Court, where Burke had the authority to publicly declare himself right and Wuerl wrong. Unfortunately, Wuerl has apostolic authority as a bishop, and short of heresy, cannot be removed.

"Cardinal Wuerl, as abp of Washington DC does not believe in refusing Communion to abortion promoters."

So- What each individual Cardinal believes about giving Communion to public servants who openly support abortion/gay marriage/euthanasia, is the only decisive factor here?

No wonder there are so many confused Catholics about these issues.

As I understand it; abortion/open support for abortion/gay marriage/euthanasia, are all grave sins.

You are not supposed to take Communion if you have done any of them.

But if politicians, who publicly support these sins, are not chastised for receiving Communion- What kind of message does that give Catholics, and everyone else?

Are these sins not that serious, because-
Lib Catholic thinking out loud: "Hey,"Our politicians openly support these, and they still go to communion"?
It would explain extremely liberal Catholics thinking it's all OK, and getting HC every week.

I'm Catholic, and I don't get why the Church lets this go on. It sends mixed messages, IMHO.
