I want to see a younger African who is doctrinally conservative. Arinze is a good man but is old. Forget an Italian, forget the Austrian, the Canadian might be good.. but an African will knock it out of the ball park. Leave our Uncle Timmy here in New York—we like him.
He is also a particularly strong Scripture scholar.
We would do very well with a man like him.
I would be very much surprised if Cardinal Dolan got the nod. The American Church right now is going through the starts of a needed house cleaning. Look for either the one from Canada or the one from Africa, since the Church has seen LOTS of growth there.
