John Cornelius, who is married, will be ordained this weekend -- and sex-free life begins
John Cornelius will be ordained a Roman Catholic priest this weekend and with the blessing of his wife they're giving up their sex life. Cornelius, a father of three, will become the first married Roman Catholic priest in New York and Sharyl, his wife of 33-years, has agreed to the whole celibacy thing.
We have decided to do that voluntarily, Cornelius told WGRZ-TV. I have always had friends that are Roman Catholic priests and I appreciate what they've given up to serve God and the priesthood.
Cornelius, 64, is a former Episcopalian priest who converted three years ago to Catholicism. He said his old church had gotten too liberal for him.
True. That's a little over 8% right there.
Really great quotes friend
Sorry it took me so long to get back, busy. I just don’t have the time to go in depth on all these issues and don’t know that it would do much good. We’ll just have to disagree. Maybe I misunderstood you, but I would like to ask one thing. Are you defending the use of artificial contraception or condemning it? Artificial contraception was basically universally condemned within Christianity until the Lambeth Conference in 1930. Even from olden times these drugs haven’t always prevented conception but have and still act as abortifacients, which is the killing of a newborn life already conceived. Contraception isn’t immoral because the Pope says so, but the Popes say it is so because it violates the natural law engraved on conscience.
I suppose we’re talking about different translations of the Bible. I don’t have my Bible at hand at the moment, but my version of Revelation 9:21 reads as follows:”Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic potions, their sexual immorality or their thefts.”
The early Christians understood “magic potions” to be contraceptive and abortifacient drugs as well as other illicit drugs. Sometimes “magic potions” is translated as “witchcraft” or “magic arts” or “sorceries”. What was the main evil witches have been known for throughout the centuries? They were known as evil because they brewed drugs which prevented conception or destroyed conception after it had already occurred. Yes, it also refers to things like casting spells, etc, but it also refers to drinks and potions or today pills which destroy human life. The word used in Revelation 9:21 is the same word in which we get the word “pharmacy” from. My interpretation of this verse makes perfect sense within Christian tradition. They were unrepentant about their sexual sins then and now. They sought and seek magic potions, contraceptives and abortifacients to prevent or kill these pregnancies then and now rather than crucify their flesh by the self-control of periodic abstinence. And what is before magic potions and sexual immorality? “murders”. Yes, it refers to the murders of people already born but Christian tradition has always understood it as referring to the use of drugs which prevent or destroy human life. The idea that Christians are free to contracept is a new idea from the 1930 Lambeth Conference which has no basis in Christian tradition. When the Lambeth Conference took this step, The Washington Post condemned it as an evil doctrine which will set forth evils like adultery, abortion, and the dissolution of marriages. And so it has occurred in the past 83 years.
No, which i thought i clearly stated, and have said before in other threads. And besides the more serious possibly of these being abortifacients, it likely cost conservatives the last election as well as contributed to the decline of Christians in the US. But a majority of Catholics also use them.
