Sadly, by some, I’m being depicted as a sloth who doesn’t work and doesn’t deserve these blessings.
Let me just tell you a little about my work history:
At age 14 and 15, during those two summers, my mom sent me to stay at her friends motel. My parents thought this would be a good idea because Id have use of the pool everyday and I could earn money. I worked every single day, yes, every day of those entire two very hot summers without a day off cleaning rooms, and working in a hot laundry room doing endless loads of sheets and towels.
When I got home, I started cleaning houses and doing yard work for people, again, this at ages 14, 15, and 16.
At 16, I got a job at a restaurant and worked as a busperson for about a year while going to school.
At 17, after graduating high school, I traveled via the Long Island Railroad to a full time job as a telemarketer. I also had another job post high school where I took the train, for a minimum wage job, no less. I also worked one summer as a camp counselor.
For two years, when I was 19 and 20, I drove a taxi. I either worked a shift of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m, or 4 a.m to 7 p.m. That’s 12 or 15 hour days. I worked six days a week.
After that, I also worked for an airport limo company, the only woman who was employed by the company, driving in and out of LaGuardia and Kennedy airports.
I took one year off of working when my daughter entered Kindergarten. Shame on me!
Additional jobs Ive held include working as a telephone operator for AT&T, driving a min-bus for summer camp kids, and working at various office jobs over the years.
I worked as a mattress salesperson and store manager for three years, from 1992 to 1995. I worked a temp job for Suffolk County Dept. of Welfare as a Home Energy Assistant Program Interviewer.
I moved to Pennsylvania because as a single mother, I could no longer afford to live in Long Island.
Recently, I worked at Sams Club as an Event Specialist and Health and Wellness Advisor. Prior to that I worked at a self-storage facility, was a caregiver to an elderly lady, and worked at a daily newspaper, and I also freelance wrote. At times I worked various temp jobs when I couldnt find anything steady.
Due to my illness, other than the year I took off when my daughter was in Kindergarten, I did not work for two or so years between 2003 and 2005. Other than that, I have worked my entire life, and paid into the system. There are many jobs I cant even remember, Ive had so many.
Bottom line, I have worked, and worked hard, my entire life. So, for those who think I dont deserve my disability, think again. By the way, since I was awarded disability, I HAVE STILL WORKED, part time.
I really dont need or want to hear the snide comments.
You don’t need to defend yourself as far as your work history. You paid into the system and rightfully deserve to have a return on that investment. Some on here are ignorant by not understanding that you have to have paid into SS in order to receive benefits from it, of course, there are a few exceptions.
Don’t allow the nastiness of some on here to discourage or shake you. Continue to thank God - because ultimately, it was He who provided this - whether some on here want to acknowledge it or not. He doesn’t drop things from heaven for us, but works through people to bless us. And, yes, those people can be the SS Administration, if He so chooses.
After reading the responses to your Vanity, I think the only thing people made reference to is your belief that God somehow corrected the mistakes made by the Government Bureaucracy. As they say, timing is everything.
If God did have some pull in that area, we would be discussing President Romney's, (or Palin’s) first term agenda. Sadly, since we possess God given free will, as those who Voted to reelect the Marxist did, we deserve everything we get, good or bad.
