“let’s suppose”
we need not suppose anything, Jesus tells us “today” is day one, “tomorrow” is day two and the following day is the “third day”.
you can’t get around it, this method is confirmed by Acts 10 and Exodus 19, same pattern, the day an event happens is day one.
so if Jesus truly died on wednesday at 3:00pm, He would have had to rise before sundown on Friday to rise “on the third day”
There is no getting around this.
but Luke 24 blows this wednesday crucifixion day right out of the water.
Luke 24:1 takes place on the first day of the week.
Luke 24:13 tells us the two were walking to Emmaus the very same day, the first day of the week.
Luke 24:21 tells us the first day of the week was “ now the third day since this happened”
since what happened? v20 tells us since the crucifixion happened.
so Luke 24 gives us all we need to know EXACTLY what day Jesus was crucified and what day He arose, applying counting days as Jesus spelled out in Luke 13.
going backwards:
first day of week ( firstfruits ) - 3rd day since crucifixion
7th day of week - 2nd day since crucifixion
6th day of week ( friday ) - day of crucifixion
going forward:
6th day of week - crucifixion day, day one
7th day of week - sabbath day, day two
1st day of week, resurrection day ( firstfruuits ) 3rd day
this is what the Bible teaches and this is what the Church has taught and believed for 2,000 years.
i can’t help that rood learned history from dan brown apparently and thinks “constantine” is to blame for this doctrine.
Quit bugging me; I'm watching Rood EXPOSED...
When I get the opportunity, I'll send you the disk # as I said so that you may understand. ;)
Your problem in Luke 24 is that you refuse to use the Hebrew method of rekoning days.
Every day begins at sundown.
Christ was pierced at the very moment that the pasach lamb was killed, at sundown, the beginning of the 5th day. He lay in the tomb through the 5th, 6th, and 7th days, and arose at the very moment that the sheaf was waved, at sundown, the beginning of First Fruits, the first day.
All of that fits perfectly with every scripture on the subject, both in Luke, and in Acts.
Accept those facts, and I promise to testify in your favor at your license suspension hearing ;o)
