I agree with everything you have said. However, the only religion that would be a deal-breaker for me is Islam...but we already have one of those, and that’s what we’re trying to undo.
I think a lot of people didn’t vote for Romney because he was a Mormon. Mormonism is a flaky cult that keeps trying to portray itself as mainstream Evangelical, but even its baptisms are not accepted by Evangelical churches (or by the Catholic Church).
It’s a very aggressive cult, however, and I think a lot of people were uneasy with knowingly letting a Mormon into a position of power. If it had been publicly acknowledged that Obama was a Muslim or Muslim sympathizer, I doubt that he would have been elected either...but the press was very careful to avoid that topic.
The same people that gave the Catholic Church the Triune God,also gave the Catholic Church the original “Inquisition” through the “Eddict of Thessalonica” in the early 400s.
The only reason that the “Triune” God eventually triumphed is because the opposition was literally murdered through imperial capital punishment, as authorized by the “Eddict”.
Personally, I can’t imagine Christ relying on an Emperor’s Imperial persecution/murders to establish his doctrines. This is generally how Satan prefers to operate.
The main proponent of the “Trinity” was the so called “Saint” Athenasius. Athenasius had a reputation as a thug, and was later sainted because without, the doctrine of the Trinity would be in the dustbin of history.
It is quite ironic though that the main linch-pin of the Trinity, also taught “God became man, so that men may become Gods” which is more of an LDS teaching. Which is not to say that man can become as God the Father, but that God created mankind as essentially, God in Embryo, as the Apostle Paul taught in the New Testament.
Christianity is alot more rife with controversy than your poor little mind is capable of fathoming. Much of current Christian main stream was won through the principle of “Might makes Right” rather than a spiritual/scholar triumph of scriptural interpretation.
This article is posted in the Religion Forum.
And the Jewish God is only One God with NO persons.
Opinions vary.
LOL! I agree, and I think that's also one of the things that made Romney look wierd and out of touch. They looked like they were trying too hard and not really living their lives, but adopting a model. An ex-Mormon friend of mine once said that in Mormonism, there was no room for anybody who didn't fit that image, and if you deviated at all, they ostracized you (and your family, in many cases).
Heck, even the hard-shell Baptists in the South are more colorful and lively than that, and as you say, they eat a lot better!
My Mormon friend also said that he had an image that the gate of Heaven was sort of like a party and he was terrified that St Peter would identify him as a Mormon and say, "A Mormon? Why, here you go...put on this garment....the Koolaid and cookies are in that room"...while everybody else was out there dressed to the nines, chowing down and having a really great time. Granted, I don't think he necessarily had the right idea of Heaven, but you get the general drift.
I certainly don’t agree with their theology, however, we had poor choices this election cycle - and socialism won. We weren’t voting for a pastor of a church, but for an administrator and that administrator should possess morals. Which of the 2 had higher morals? It certainly wasn’t the person who won.
I kind of wondered in the back of my mind if the Mormon Church would have had an influence on the WH if Romney would have won.I don’t believe he would have used the WH for a pulpit, but we’ll never know that.
“approximately a third of protestant pastors don’t even believe in the divinity of Jesus, so the triune god doesn’t make any sense to them”
Right-O buzzard!
All Protestants that do not believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, also doubt the teachings of that divinely inspired Bible. No shock there.
As such, they are probably not Christians.
As to the triune God making sense to humans... Revelation about the divine doesn’t make sense to humans. Doesn’t have to. We see that God is One in the Bible. We see each member of the Godhead has all the attributes of God. We rightly conclude there is One God who has three Persons. Settled in the face of cultic opposition more than a thousand years ago.
As such, mormonism the cult is nothing new. It is simply a recycling of cultic falsehood. Satan’s fashion show of heresies. The platform shoes of evil.
The wonder isn’t that mormonism is a collection of false teachings. The wonder is that God reaches out to mormons and offers to forgive their sin and give them eternal life... as He does to each of us. Wondrous!
Unfortunately, like the monkey trap where they put a nut inside a coconut shell, once a mormon grabs the heresies of mormonism, his hand is trapped on a path to a destiny apart from God for eternity. He can let go and accept God’s gift at any time, but he is often loath to admit the errors he accepted and so he clings to the nut of mormonism, held in place, thinking he has a treasure. It is a trap. May the One God open his eyes. That is what it takes.
Happy Thanksgiving,
AMPU
Then, why, why WHY teppe do mormons keep insisting as this woman does in the article that "mormons are Christians"?
When I was a mormon, there was continual boasting from the pulpit that mormons were NOT like those ignorant Christians.
Someone in the mormon church decided that more converts/more money could be gained by pretending to accept Christianity. But the belief remains that ONLY through mormon membership and taking part in arcane rituals in mormon temples can salvation be gained.
Mormonism is the "Great Pretender".
Both history and religion are written by the winners. Who knows what Christianity will look like in a 1000 years?
Would that have moved to the forefront of your mind if you had known that Mitt has taken this vow in mormon temples numerous times?
You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the Law of Consecration as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants, in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.
Sorry Greyfoxx39, I am active LDS, and I worship God the Father through his Son Jesus Christ.
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all mankind, that solely by him, through him and because of him mankind can be saved from eternal damnation, and without him mankind is destined for that very damnation.
If this belief system somehow sounds unchristian to you .... I’m sorry, but not my problem.
Frankly, I could care less about what your or mainstream christianity’s opinion of my religious beliefs are. I only care about what God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christs opinion of my beliefs are. I have had many sacred experiences through my life where the Lord has shown me through the Holy Ghost that my beliefs and service are acceptable to him.
Undoubtedly you will contest that I have been inspired by Satan rather than the Holy Ghost. The problem with that is the nature of my experiences.
Invariably, these affirmating experiences with the Holy Ghost have been accompanied with an incredible inner peace and spiritual confidence which starts with love of God and branches out to love of family, love of neighbor, extending to love of mankind, eventually encompassing the entire world. The Holy Ghost commonly uses this manner of spiritual affirmation, as it is a small window into the total and complete love which God the Father, and his Son Jesus Christ have for all of mankind.
Satan is incapable of duplicating this experience, his comparable affirmation is centered in self-righteousness and dominance through unrighteous dominion. Of which, sadly, Christian history is extremely rich with.
I believe you are referring to these folk:
2 PETER 2:1-3
2 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
I had a very dear friend who was a Mormon, however, not a practicing one at the time. I witnessed and shared the truth of the Gospel, and what happened was that he decided that he needed to get back in touch with his Mormonism. I kid you not. He then married an LDS woman and they took their vows at the temple in Utah. I cried over that, but I did give him the truth -he chose to not accept it.
So, I know quite a bit about their teachings and beliefs and they are totally teaching “another gospel.”
Yet, Mitt went to visit Billy Graham and won his endorsement. If you don’t understand their theology, you will be misled by the fact that they use a lot of the same terms as Christianity, but with different meanings.
How so? The Presidency is a secular office,
I see you are following the mormon custom of trashing Christianity, AND following the mormon tradition of "if you can't disprove someone's point, just bear your testimony".
Mormonism's goal is dominance over the entire world.
************************
While I believe that Mormons are good, moral people - your theology is in error in some areas. Do you believe that Jesus Christ and Satan are brothers? What do you believe about the blood of Christ shed on the cross for the remission of sins? There are distinct differences between Mormon teaching and Christianity. Another example is that Mormons believe that if a spouse dies - then they will be reunited in heaven. This is in error because Jesus said that we will neither marry or be given in marriage in heaven.
You sound sincere in what you believe, however, you can also be sincerely wrong in those beliefs.
An excellent chart of the way Christianity is distorted by mormonism can be found here:
I didn’t like Romney. But I’ve worked with a fair number of Mormons and, to a man, they have been GREAT co-workers. Always on time, true to their word, honest, ethical. Heinlein noted that “One man’s theology is another man’s belly laugh’. If he would have been as good a president as the other Mormons I’ve known have been at their jobs he would have been great. Even the preacher at the church I went to at the time (Assembly of God) couldn’t think of a time he had ever had a dealing with a LDS’er that wasn’t above board.
Catsrus,
Thankyou for reminding this errant LDS christian of his his God, and restoring him to a love of God.
as for the “Another Gospel”, I can say with complete confidence that Oridgin and may of the 2nd Century theologians would believe that what has evolved into main stream christianity is definately “Another Gospel” from what was taught prior to 4th Century Christianity.
I think it’s interesting that even Rev. Billy Graham close to his deathbed in preparation to meet God, has removed his proclamation of the LDS Chruch as a unchristian cult.
You may say that Billy Graham is old and senial, but Moses’s best years were from age 80 to 120.
I’m not claiming that I believe in all of Rev. Billy Grahams teachings; but just maybe, as he prepares to meet God, the Rev. Billy Graham has one more thing to teach people like you.
