If you check out some other images he has on his site you can see that the hair is pulled back like a braid and the sides of his hair is hanging long beside his face (curled?) just the way the Orthodox Jews ware it today. The”hard shell” Jews never change anything.

Thanks! I know it’s just movies, but I’ve often wondered why they almost always represent the common people with short hair and Jesus with long hair. It never crossed my mind that it was the locks of an observant Jew!

They are called "peyos". It was the traditional hair arrangement for Jewish men in that day...and for some still is.

The Torah says, "You shall not round off the peyos of your head" (Leviticus 19:27).

The word peyos refers to sideburns -- i.e. the hair in front of the ears that extends to underneath the cheekbone which is level with the nose. The Talmud explains that this law only applies to men, not to women.
