OK, I don't know if you hold a Christian worldview or not, but if you don't, allow me to explain an Evangelical one on this matter.
Evangelicals get their spiritual moniker because we focus heavily on Evangelism...
...evangelism literally being the Good News of the ONLY Son of God who existed prior to the creation of this world (having been created by God the Son and God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.....
...And this Son of God was incarnated as Yeshua and lived the perfect life and died on our behalf in order to reconcile us to the Father. His resurrection topped off that triumph over Satan, death ... hence this is GREAT News!!!
Evangelicals believe in heaven and hell. Jesus said "wide is the road that leads to destruction" and "narrow is the way that leads to life." You know what? That tells me that possibly MORE -- as in MANY more -- people are heading for hell than heaven.
Hence, like the apostle Paul's urgency over his fellow Jews, we don't want people winding up in hell (Romans 9:1-3).
Now, Unam Sanctam, you used the word "impose" --as if that was the only spiritual danger involved. Well...Evangelicals are QUITE concerned over the other "pose" -- as in expose -- that the Mormon false teachings and the Mormon Church will be getting with a Mormon White House. Romney wouldn't even have to do anything. The Mormon Public relations campaign...hundreds of $mllions worth -- would kick into high gear to take advantage of this "Mormon moment."
The bottom line is: More people into the Mormon church thru this false P.R. campaign = more people potentially hell-bound. The apostle Paul -- as he was leaving the church at Ephesus -- said he spent three years NIGHT and DAY warning them about how false shepherds ... "wolves" was the term he used -- would come in and devour the sheep. (See Acts 20)
Paul spent three years warning them night and day about that...to show you how much of a priority that was.
In contrast, the religious elite and the lazier shepherds of churches on board tend to highly neglect such concerns.
And somehow...people who either claim some high level of religiosity...or more of a shallow connection...seem to think they can 100% ignore the words of the Bible...like Paul's warning, for example...and that somehow all things will be "hunky-dory" spiritually as well as politically...
Sorry, I simply do not see the problem at all. I guess you’re saying Mormon evangelists will try to take advantage of having a Mormon in the White House. So what? This is a free country, with freedom of religion, and anyone can make any kind of pitch they want. Christians are free to and must make a stronger pitch, which I believe is stronger anyway since so much of Mormonism is just unbelievable. I just look at the big picture of our society. The biggest threat to Christian values and the Christian religion comes from secular liberalism, not from Mormons, who in fact are allies against the redefinition of marriage, e.g., in California. Obama and the Democrats are the biggest source and engine for secular liberalism in politics. They must be voted out. Republicans may not be perfect, but they will be more susceptible to pressure at least on occasion on conservative principles, and on preserving of religious liberty that Obama wants to trample underfoot. I’m sorry, but I just don’t see the danger from a Mormon president. One has to look beyond religious labels to what would best serve the country in the particular circumstances at hand. Romney would be better than pseudo-Christian Obama. If I were to take offense at a candidates religion, I find much more objectionable to the black liberation theology of Obama and Rev. Wright, which is basically a form of Marxism with race substituted for class and with a little Christian lingo thrown in to fool the boobs.
