Religious liberty and credibility, where he opens with:
"The recent compromise by the Obama administration on its proposed mandate of contraception was an appropriate response to legitimate and widespread Catholic concerns about religious liberty. Most Catholic organizations affected by the mandate found the compromise acceptable. The major holdout is the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Even though the bishops have no credibility with their teachings on contraception, they were supported by the majority of Catholics in their initial response to the mandate."
Why let bishops drive us from church we love?, where he opens with:
"Well-informed U.S. Catholics are acutely aware of the arrogance, paternalism, flawed logic, inflammatory rhetoric, failure of personal accountability, and lack of pastoral sensitivity of many of our church leaders. The U.S. bishops have set the tone with their continued denial of the wholesale rejection of church teaching on contraception; their clumsy, heavy-handed, ineffective attempt to influence national health care legislation; their opposition to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations prohibiting discrimination against gays and lesbians; and their condemnation of the work of theologian St. Joseph Sr. Elizabeth Johnson without even meeting with her."
Also of note, Cahill served as the director of "Catholic" Charities of San Francisco from 2000 to early 2009. In 2008, his organization gave a "Loaves and Fishes" award, complete with a gala award dinner, to George Marcus, a real-estate mogul who donates to Planned Parenthood, and embryonic stem-cell research ballot initiatives.
Pray for the soul and malformed conscious of Brian Cahill.
