It started as an anti-Catholic organization ("Protestants and Other Americans United for Separation of Church and State") but shortened its name when they decided to go after some Protestants too.

I remember reading that this all goes back to a law LBJ got Congress to pass when he was running for re-election to the Senate in 1954, in order to keep churches from supporting his opponent. It should have been declared unconstitutional a long time ago because of the First Amendment.

Barry W. Lynn is also an IRS informant. He goes around and monitor's any church he doesn't approve of and reports back to the government if they should modify the tax exempt status of that church.

Allow me this one correction. It's REVERAND Barry Lynn ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. {Ok IMO so called reverand} but yea it's OK for him to be pushing his political agenda it seems.
